The Engineer III - Distribution Design will apply established engineering principles in the design/development of electric, gas and/or water distribution and/or transmission facilities depending on area of work concentration. This role involves designing and planning improvements, additions, and replacements of utility distribution facilities. The position requires preparing and reviewing drawings, material specifications, and cost estimates. It also involves providing system information and technical assistance to external stakeholders, preparing estimates and work authorizations, and ensuring compliance with federal/state regulations. The engineer will perform computer analysis for utility systems, identify and propose corrections for system malfunctions, evaluate new products and equipment, and review obsolete items for potential use. Additionally, the role includes determining construction changes during work in progress, reviewing reports on leaks/outages, and coordinating departmental work with other internal departments, governmental agencies, and contractors. Field trips for data gathering, measurements, and inspections are also part of the responsibilities. Staying updated with engineering developments, rules, regulations, and codes, and maintaining industry-related materials are essential. The position may involve other duties as directed.
