About The Position

Leidos is seeking an Associate Distribution Engineer for electric utility and fiber design engineering to work in their Orlando office. This position is initially a temporary role for up to 6 months with the possibility of conversion to a full-time Leidos employee. The position involves developing construction work packages for electric distribution and fiber systems using various software and construction standards, potentially in Overhead (OH), Underground (UG), or Underground Residential Distribution (URD) environments. Project work may include joint use make ready and street light projects. Work packages will be developed using Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Computer Aided Design (CAD) tools, Work Management Systems (WMS), and other client systems. Engineering calculations will be performed for tasks such as structural analysis of poles, guying, cable pulling, electric demand, transformer sizing, voltage drop and flicker, and coordination of protective devices. Additional assignments may include preparing forestry trimming requests, facilitating permit and Right-of-Way acquisition, developing Bills of Materials (BOM), estimating costs, and customer advocacy like acquiring easements. Field investigations will require traveling by motor vehicle to project locations. Training will be provided for applicable customer engineering, construction standards, and software systems.

Requirements

  • Bachelors of Science in Engineering degree or Master’s degree (EE or CE preferred).
  • 0+ years of prior relevant experience (working directly with an electric utility or an electric utility consulting company, performing design engineering).
  • Must be comfortable in both a field office setting.
  • Must be able to lift 20 pounds.
  • Must be able to walk up to 2 miles on unpaved surfaces.
  • Candidate must have valid U.S. driver’s license.
  • Candidate must provide their own reliable transportation.
  • Local customer/job-related travel is anticipated and will be reimbursed at IRS approved rates.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with the National Electric Safety Code (NESC).
  • Familiarity with PoleForeman, SAP, Microstation, ArcGIS, AutoCAD, Visio.
  • Fundamentals of Engineer Certifications.

Responsibilities
