About The Position

An Operations Manager is a results-driven leader responsible for overseeing multiple functional areas within the distribution center and leading a team of salaried Area Managers and their hourly workforce in alignment with Bob’s core values. In this role, you will leverage your expertise in operational strategy, safety, quality, and performance to drive departmental outcomes and foster a positive culture of growth and development across multiple teams. You will collaborate closely with peer Operations Managers, support functions, and senior leadership to shape departmental strategy, develop your leadership bench, and ensure sustained operational performance that protects customer commitments.

  • Proven track record of holding salaried leaders accountable to ensure results are high quality and meet success criteria.
  • Delivers real-time, data-driven feedback tied to productivity, quality, and safety metrics.
  • Owns department performance including throughput, quality, safety, and cost.
  • Skilled at delegating through layers of leadership and empowering Area Managers to own their areas.
  • Ability to determine severity of tasks and escalate appropriately to senior leadership.
  • History of driving multi-area and cross-functional projects to completion with measurable outcomes.
  • Ability to build department plans, communicate requirements across a leadership team, and navigate shifting priorities.
  • Delivers daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly operational targets (UPH, SLA, Cost, Quality) at the department level.
  • Consistently makes well-informed decisions.
  • Ability to negotiate trade-offs across areas: Time Vs. Quality Vs. Resources Vs. Cost.
  • Balances short-term operational needs with long-term business impact.
  • Ability to analyze complex, cross-area issues and develop effective, sustainable solutions.
  • Uses data trends and reporting to identify systemic inefficiencies and improvement opportunities across the department.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills that facilitate clear, impactful interactions with frontline associates, salaried leaders, and senior leadership.
  • Ability to define and clarify what success looks like at both the area and department level.
  • Demonstrates high situational awareness and adapts leadership style to environment and audience.
  • Proven ability to manage and resolve conflicts constructively.
  • Partners effectively with Human Resources on employee relations matters, coaching, and performance management.
  • Ability to motivate and engage both salaried leaders and frontline associates.
  • Boosts morale by maintaining visible presence on the floor alongside Area Managers.
  • Builds a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement across the department.
  • Proficiency in Warehouse Management System (WMS) and Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to quickly learn and adapt to new systems and technologies.
  • Ability to meet and exceed department performance metrics, including financial targets and customer satisfaction scores.
  • Manages department labor costs, productivity rates, and budget adherence.
  • Tracks and improves KPI’s such as UPH, cost per unit, on-time shipping, and fill rate at the department level.
  • Understands P&L impact of the operation and drives cost efficiencies within the department.
  • Demonstrated commitment to enhancing the customer experience.
  • Meet customer commitments by driving quality and accuracy standards and minimizing damage of products across multiple areas.
  • Responds quickly to service failures and implements sustainable corrective actions.
  • Proven ability to streamline workflows and implement effective process improvements across multiple areas.
  • Ability to lead and sponsor process improvement initiatives (Lean, Kaizen, and/or Six Sigma).
  • Capability to develop and implement department strategic plans aligned with site and network business objectives.
  • Owns department labor planning, capacity planning, and peak readiness strategies.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a warehouse environment with at least 2 years management experience.
  • Experienced with process improvement initiatives and owning performance metrics.
  • Exceptional understanding of supply chain and distribution center operations.
  • Experience in using a warehouse management system (WMS) – preferably SAP, as well as Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel
  • Ability to communicate proactively and effectively including comprehending and communicating detailed instructions, reading and writing, and having knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures as required by the position.
  • Must be at least 18 years old to be considered for employment with Bob’s.

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus, given the workforce composition at several of Bob’s distribution centers.
  • Prior experience in a high-volume retail or furniture distribution environment.
  • Experience supporting peak-season operations with fluctuating volume and staffing.
  • Bachelor's degree in supply chain, logistics, or related field preferred.
