About The Position

This position is accountable for the administration of the Underground Damage Prevention (UDP) section's ticket-screening process, which includes the processing and assignment of dig-request tickets from state one-call associations (OH, PA, NY, NJ, MD, WV), representing the FirstEnergy operating companies on behalf of Energy Delivery – Joint Use & Cable Locating.

Requirements

  • An associate degree in a related discipline: Business, Accounting, Economics, Engineering technology AND 2-3 yrs of related work experience, or a High School Diploma/ GED AND 4+ years of related experience.
  • General understanding of FirstEnergy’s Accident Prevention Handbook and effective application in the workplace.
  • General working knowledge of: The purpose and function of distribution electrical systems, Construction methods for excavation, FirstEnergy’s Construction Standards and Engineering Practices, Electronic ticket-management software application.
  • General understanding of applicable 811 legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Professionalism to work with all levels of employees (i.e. internal/ external customers) in a courteous manner that demonstrates FirstEnergy's Values & Behaviors.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate a solid commitment to all aspects of safety.
  • Perform various duties in a timely manner associated with screening/processing underground (UG) locate tickets from state one-call associations in Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, Maryland and West Virginia.
  • Efficiently evaluate each ticket for the dig box's proximity to UG facilities, using electronic ticket-management software and GIS View.
  • Assign tickets to contractors to be located and marked out as needed.
  • Expedite emergency tickets.
  • Verify that all tickets have been successfully transmitted to locate contractor(s).
  • Verify that contractors have received tickets and responded positively, in accordance with state one-call laws and FirstEnergy requirements.
  • Provide training in the electronic ticket-screening system application to new ticket-screening staff and other dependent departments, such as Claims.
  • Develop and maintain the UDP Daily Scorecard.
  • Provide various reports and ad hoc queries, using the electronic ticket-management software application data.
  • Work effectively with IT and ticket-management software vendors to develop enhancements and troubleshoot problems.
  • Work effectively in a collaborative environment with other departments and organizations (e.g. state engineering, Claims, IT, contractors, state one call centers, software vendor).
  • Provide resolutions to customer, contractor, and excavator inquiries.
  • Assist Claims Department staff with investigation of damage to UG facilities.
  • Learn to identify process improvements and best practices to support FirstEnergy’s ability to comply with 811 regulatory commitments.
  • Understand state/federal law and company practices as it relates to underground damage prevention safety.
  • Exercise sound decision making as it relates to ticket screening operations.
  • Participate in the storm restoration process and be available to work extended hours as needed.
  • Attend/complete all required regulatory training.
