About The Position

As a Distinguished Systems and Infrastructure Engineer in Information Security, you will lead the design and implementation of scalable, secure infrastructure solutions across complex systems. The role calls for expertise in architectural principles, security frameworks, and automation to support system performance and compliance. You will work with cross-functional teams to turn business requirements into technical strategies, advance security practices, and oversee infrastructure maintenance and capacity planning. You will join Walmart’s AI Security Team, which develops security frameworks to protect enterprise AI assets and address risks involving generative AI and agentic workflows, including prompt injection and model supply-chain challenges. The team uses systems engineering, cloud migration, continuous integration, and software development to build secure, scalable infrastructure and protect organizational resources while enabling AI solutions. The position is based at 805 SE Moberly Ln., Bentonville, Arkansas. The annual salary range is $130,000 to $260,000, with additional annual or quarterly performance bonuses and, for certain positions, stock.

Requirements

  • Python programming skills for securing agent execution environments, validating and sanitizing structured model outputs and tool calls, or handling arbitrary execution in dynamic evaluation workflows.
  • Experience integrating automated AI security testing, including prompt-injection testing, model scanning, and dependency-vulnerability checks.
  • Experience isolating autonomous agent runtimes and untrusted tool executions using hardened container environments.
  • Knowledge of best practices for auditing, tracking, and enforcing peer review of system prompts, agent tool schemas, and policy-as-code to prevent prompt tampering.
  • Proficiency in defining immutable, secure Linux environments for AI workloads and configuring runtime guardrails and OS-level sandboxing.
  • Knowledge of multi-agent design patterns, state management, and blast-radius containment to ensure agents operate within deterministic boundaries.
  • Option 1 minimum qualification: Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, engineering, information systems, cybersecurity, or a related area, and 6 years of experience in systems and infrastructure engineering or a related area at a technology, retail, or data-driven company.
  • Option 2 minimum qualification: 8 years of experience in systems and infrastructure engineering or a related area at a technology, retail, or data-driven company.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in computer science, information technology, engineering, information systems, cybersecurity, or a related area, and 4 years of experience leading information security or cybersecurity projects.
  • Experience creating inclusive digital experiences, including knowledge of WCAG 2.2 AA standards, assistive technologies, and digital accessibility best practices.

Responsibilities

  • Review internal AI projects, pipelines, and architectures for security gaps and drive mitigations.
  • Analyze emerging global AI threats and risks and update security policies, playbooks, and standards accordingly.
