Distinguished Enterprise Architect - Robotics

Mayo Clinic•Rochester, MN
•$185,245 - $277,867

About The Position

Mayo Clinic’s Robotics Program aims to pioneer human-centered robotics that expands access and creates safe, personalized, and convenient experiences for patients and staff. The Distinguished Enterprise Architect - Robotics serves as the program’s senior technical authority and defines how an enterprise-wide, heterogeneous fleet of robots from multiple manufacturers will work together across settings such as operating rooms, corridors, elevators, and laboratories. The architect establishes enterprise standards, reference architecture, and vendor evaluation frameworks to ensure interoperability, data ownership and sharing, fleet observability and orchestration, safety, security, and reliability. The role sets multi-year technical direction for the shift toward AI-driven autonomy and helps ensure that current investments provide a sustainable foundation for Mayo Clinic’s robotics future.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, systems engineering, or another relevant field.
  • Fifteen years of relevant technology experience.
  • TOGAF Enterprise Architecture Practitioner or TOGAF 9 Certified certification required within 12 months of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in computer science, information systems, systems engineering, or another relevant field.
  • Demonstrated architecture or technical leadership as a Principal, Chief, Distinguished, Fellow, or equivalent senior technical authority.
  • TOGAF EA Leader credential.
  • Deep demonstrated expertise architecting multi-vendor robotics or cyber-physical systems at enterprise scale across robot platforms, fleet management, connectivity, data, and security.
  • Working knowledge of robot interoperability standards and frameworks such as VDA 5050, Open-RMF, and OPC UA, and healthcare data standards such as HL7, including FHIR.
  • Experience defining vendor evaluation frameworks, procurement requirements for interoperability and data rights, and reference architectures for multi-vendor ecosystems.
  • Architecture experience with fleet observability, telemetry, and cross-vendor orchestration.
  • Familiarity with mobile and service robot safety standards such as ANSI/A3 R15.08, ISO 3691-4, and ISO 13482.
  • Familiarity with cybersecurity frameworks for connected medical and operational technology such as ISA/IEC 62443 and IEC 81001-5-1.
  • Perspective on AI-driven autonomy, including generalist and humanoid systems, learning-based methods, and simulation, sufficient to set multi-year technical direction and guardrails.
  • Experience in healthcare or another safety-critical, highly regulated environment.
  • Recognized external presence through standards bodies, publications, patents, or industry leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Define enterprise standards and reference architecture for a heterogeneous, multi-vendor robotics fleet.
  • Establish frameworks for evaluating robotics vendors and ensuring interoperability across the enterprise.
  • Define how robot data is owned and shared and how fleets are observed and orchestrated across vendors.
  • Ensure robotics systems meet Mayo Clinic expectations for safety, security, and reliability.
  • Set multi-year technical direction for the transition toward AI-driven autonomous systems.
  • Ensure current robotics investments provide a foundation for future capabilities rather than creating dead ends.

Benefits

  • Multiple medical plan options.
  • Dental coverage through Delta Dental or a reimbursement account for flexible coverage.
  • Vision plan with a national network.
  • HSA and FSAs for eligible expenses.
  • Competitive retirement package.
  • Competitive compensation and comprehensive benefit plans.
  • Continuing education and advancement opportunities.
