As a Distinguished Engineer at Capital One, you will be a part of a community of technical experts working to define the future of banking in the cloud. Distinguished Engineers are expected to lead through technical contribution. You will operate as a trusted advisor for our key technologies, platforms and capability domains, creating clear and concise communications, code samples, blog posts and other material to share knowledge both inside and outside the organization. You will specialize in a particular subject area, but your input and impact will be sought and expected throughout the organization. In this role, you will be responsible for defining and delivering the next evolution of engineering within People Tech. We are shifting from domain-centric development to a system-driven model where capabilities are defined once and executed consistently through shared platforms. This includes advancing Engineering and Operational Excellence across the organization, reducing duplication, and enabling faster, more reliable delivery through standardized execution, reuse, and strong governance. Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree
• At least 7 years of experience in Software engineering and solution architecture
• At least 7 years of experience in Enterprise architecture and design patterns
• At least 7 years of experience in designing and building distributed AI and ML systems
• At least 7 years of experience in Cloud computing (AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud).

Nice To Haves

• Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Computer Science or a related field
• 10+ years of experience in software engineering, platform engineering, or architecture
• 10+ years of professional experience coding in commonly used languages like Java, Python, Go, JavaScript/TypeScript, Swift, etc.
• 8+ years of professional experience in the full lifecycle of system development, from conception through architecture, implementation, testing, deployment and production support
• 8+ years of experience with public or private cloud technologies
• Experience leveraging interactive AI tooling to accelerate productivity, utilizing capabilities beyond basic code completion
• Experience partnering across product, engineering, and platform teams to deliver cross-domain solutions

• Evangelize a bold technical vision for system-driven execution, pivoting the organization from manual workflows to autonomous operations
• Architect high scale, reusable capabilities that enable consistent execution across domains
• Lead the evolution from application-centric development to capability-based, platform-enabled delivery
• Establish and enforce engineering and operational excellence standards, including reliability, scalability, and observability
• Partner at the intersection of Product and Engineering to translate complex business intent into scalable, shared system logic
• Eradicate duplication by enforcing a "build once, scale everywhere" architecture across all People Tech use cases.
• Service as technical authority on non-functional architecture, ensuring extreme resiliency and enterprise-grade readiness
