About The Position

U.S. Bank is seeking a Distinguished Engineer AI to lead the development, testing, and deployment of advanced artificial intelligence and machine learning solutions. This role will support business units across the organization, focusing on models for fraud detection, credit risk analysis, document intelligence, and other operational workflows within regulated financial services environments. The position involves partnering with senior leaders and cross-functional teams to define AI/ML strategy, identify opportunities for data-driven improvements, and influence enterprise technology roadmaps. Key activities include applying modern AI/ML techniques (data mining, data modeling, NLP, computer vision), collaborating with stakeholders to gather requirements and integrate AI/ML capabilities, leading the development and maintenance of production-grade AI/ML pipelines, providing technical guidance and mentorship, conducting model diagnostics and interpretability analyses, and supporting model governance, documentation, and compliance activities.

Requirements

Master’s degree in Statistics or Business Analytics plus 5 years of experience in the development and deployment of machine learning solutions or models in production environments.
Alternatively, a Bachelor’s degree in Statistics or Business Analytics plus 7 years of progressive, post-baccalaureate experience in the development and deployment of machine learning solutions or models in production environments.
5 years of experience (with Master's) or 7 years of experience (with Bachelor's) developing and deploying machine learning solutions within regulated financial services environments.
Developing analytical use cases across credit risk, fraud prevention, or payments.
Developing and training machine learning models in large-scale and distributed data processing environments, using Python programming, SQL data querying, and performing end-to-end machine learning workflows.
Conducting model diagnostics and explainability analyses to assess model performance, stability, and drift.
Working with large structured datasets in enterprise and production data environments.
Collaborating with business and technology stakeholders to translate requirements into analytical solutions in enterprise environments.

Responsibilities

Lead the development, testing, and deployment of advanced artificial intelligence and machine learning solutions.
Support business units across the organization with models for fraud detection, credit risk analysis, document intelligence, and other operational workflows.
Partner closely with senior leaders and cross-functional teams to define AI/ML strategy.
Identify opportunities for data-driven improvements and influence enterprise technology roadmaps.
Apply modern machine learning and artificial intelligence techniques to extract insights from large datasets.
Collaborate with internal partners and external stakeholders to gather requirements, evaluate third-party data sources and solutions, and integrate AI/ML capabilities.
Lead the development, support, and maintenance of end-to-end, production-grade AI/ML pipelines.
Provide technical guidance and mentorship on AI/ML best practices.
Conduct model diagnostics, interpretability analyses, and ongoing performance monitoring.
Support model governance, documentation, and compliance activities in accordance with internal policies and regulatory expectations.
