About The Position

The Police Review Commission (PRC) is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Disposition Writer to support the fair, transparent, and timely resolution of police conduct complaints. In this role, you will be responsible for drafting and reviewing assessment and disposition letters, and other complaint-related correspondence that directly impacts complainants, subject officers, and stakeholders. This position plays a critical role in maintaining public confidence in Alberta's police oversight process by ensuring complaint outcomes are communicated clearly, fairly, and professionally.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Administration, Criminology, Law, English, or a related field.
  • 2 years related experience in professional writing, editing, investigations, regulatory decision writing, complaints management, or a related environment.
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience preparing disposition letters or clear, plain-language communications on complex or sensitive issues.
  • Knowledge of administrative decision-making processes and complaint resolution environments.
  • Experience interpreting and applying legislation, policy, and regulatory frameworks.
  • Strong editing, proofreading, and technical writing skills.
  • Experience conducting quality assurance reviews, audits, or process improvement initiatives.
  • Strong research, analytical, and critical-thinking abilities.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Microsoft Teams.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines within a high-volume environment.

Responsibilities

  • Draft, edit, and finalize assessment and disposition letters that are accurate, impartial, and aligned with legislative requirements and organizational standards.
  • Ensure correspondence clearly communicates decisions, findings, procedural rights, and applicable timelines in plain language.
  • Work closely with PRC staff, Legal Services, and leadership to validate facts, clarify complex information, and resolve discrepancies.
  • Develop and maintain templates, writing standards, and guidance materials to improve consistency and quality.
  • Provide writing support, coaching, and feedback to staff to strengthen communication practices and plain-language writing skills.
  • Research and stay current on relevant legislation, case law, policy updates, and best practices in public-sector and regulatory writing.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement by providing recommendations that support operational excellence and improved service delivery.
