About The Position

Dispatcher is an entry-level position responsible for ensuring the seamless and safe coordination of on- and off-mountain activities by serving as the central communication hub for all mountain operations departments, emergency response teams, and guests. This role demands exceptional verbal and written communication skills, meticulous attention to detail, and the ability to remain calm and professional under pressure while handling sensitive and sometimes confidential information in a fast-paced environment. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 1-3 months related experience in a high intensity job and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills; able to interact clearly with guests and staff and manage dispatch communications effectively.
  • Excellent organizational and computer skills with keen attention to detail; including proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Access and Excel.
  • Demonstrates a strong commitment to customer service and safety, with proven skills in conflict resolution and the ability to effectively address and escalate guest or team concerns as needed, with safety at the forefront.
  • Reliable and punctual; able to arrive on time for shift, regardless of weather or road conditions.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills; ability to communicate effectively during high intensity situations.
  • Effective team player.
  • Proficient and trained with all Dispatch manual policies and procedures.
  • Able to quickly analyze, respond and coordinate multiple tasks simultaneously during shift, while maintaining composure and effectiveness in emergency situations.
  • Beginner to Advanced skier; must be able to understand resort layout. Specifically for times when investigative questioning for response coordination is necessary.
  • Must be capable of sitting for long periods of time, up to 90% or more of a normal 8 to 10 hour work shift.
  • Must be capable of occasionally carrying, lifting, pushing or pulling up to 35 lbs.
  • Must be capable of occasionally squatting, bending, kneeling, reaching, and balancing, able to climb ladders, and shovel snow.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor all communication avenues: multiple radio channels, multiple phone lines, emails, and Microsoft Teams channels; for any issues or inquiries that arise. These issues include, but are not limited to: injuries, lift issues, missing persons, power issues, avalanches, etc.
  • Serve as a liaison between the VP of Resort Operations and key departments regarding daily conditions, operational changes, and priorities. Share appropriate updates via radio, phone, Microsoft Teams and email to provide effective distribution of information across teams.
  • Maintain accurate operational records, including logs, radio transmissions, phone calls, lift downtime, and other relevant information.
  • Support data tracking and reporting for lift information.
  • Update and manage lift schedules, delays, and status; ensure timely publication to the Solitude Mountain Resort website and app.
  • Monitor patrol locations and coordinate all on-hill travel and traffic during avalanche mitigation.
  • Assist Dispatch Manager with any projects or administrative tasks they deem appropriate. Upon approval of the Dispatch Manager, employees may assist the VP of Resort Operations and other operations managers with projects and administrative tasks when appropriate.
  • Attend and participate in all Ski Patrol and Mountains Operations meetings; daily morning meetings, post-incident reviews and debriefs, etc.
  • Complete the FEMA ICS 100 course within first year of employment
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of sensitive information, exercising sound judgment in determining what can be shared and with whom, in alignment with company policies, ensuring appropriate communication and adherence to privacy protocols.
