The Dispatcher Call Taker answers incoming phone calls for service per Emergency Medical Dispatch and company procedure as required and utilizes appropriate Emergency Medical Dispatch and company procedure to accurately determine the exact nature of each call giving pre arrival instructions to callers per appropriate emergency medical dispatch and company procedure. The dispatcher ensures that all equipment is ready for use at the beginning of each shift, performs daily inspections of their work area and the Dispatch Center for cleanliness, and maintains appropriate communications with company units, managers, support staff, receiving healthcare facilities, and other agencies via radio, data link, pager, or cell phone as required. They must be knowledgeable of local geography, respond to all calls for service promptly and accurately, obtain complete intake information from all callers, and input information into the Computer Aided Dispatch system. The dispatcher acts in the best interests of high-quality patient care and the safety of field crews, patients, other EMS personnel, bystanders, and public safety personnel. They must demonstrate complete knowledge, understanding, and compliance with company policies and procedures, ensure the security of all company computer systems and property, and maintain the security and privacy of all company and patient information in accordance with HIPAA and other regulations. Additionally, they must report to assigned shifts properly groomed, attired, and on time, remaining on duty until properly relieved, setting an example of professionalism and leadership, and assuring all company goals, objectives, and procedures are followed.
