About The Position

College Police Dispatcher is a non-sworn, critical role responsible for answering emergency lines (campus emergency number 5555) and business lines, operating radio communications, and monitoring security/fire alarms. They utilize Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) systems to prioritize incidents, dispatch campus police, security officers, emergency services, and update logs. They often manage mass notifications through the college’s RAVE system. This is a casual, non-benefitted position.

Requirements

Excellent verbal and written skills, with the ability to maintain composure during stressful, high-pressure situations.
Ability to operate radio systems, CAD software, and Microsoft Office.
Be able to attain DCJIS certification.
Must pass a thorough background check.
Must be able to work varied shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays as this position is for an on-call member (casual position with Smith College).
High School Diploma or equivalent required.
Previous experience in public safety, security, or customer service.

Nice To Haves

EMD (Emergency Medical Dispatch) and APCO PST1 certifications, or the ability to obtain them is helpful.
Good customer service skills

Responsibilities

Answer emergency and non-emergency calls, obtaining critical information, and dispatching police, fire, or medical units.
Monitor security, intrusion, card access, and fire alarm systems.
Periodically monitor numerous security cameras.
Log incidents into our CAD system.
Perform CJIS (Criminal Justice Information Systems) queries for license, warrant, or criminal history checks.
Handle walk-in requests for assistance at the police department.
