About The Position

Carlow University invites applications for the position of Dispatcher. This position is to act as a Liaison between all visitors, staff, faculty, and students as well as all outside public safety agencies responding to emergencies on campus. Properly determine the level of service needed in emergency and non-emergency situations and dispatch the appropriate personnel. Monitors security system, surveillance system, and fire alarm systems and reports alarms to the University Police and County 9-1-1 Center as needed. Contact appropriate staff members for after hour problems (leaks, IT concerns, HVAC problems, lockouts, others) and quickly exercise good judgment in emergency situations, follow oral and written procedures and to maintain communication with all persons involved. Additional Duties: Monitors the main entry to the Residence Halls and ensures the visitors are signed in and issued a visitor pass. Enters all pertinent information into the police programs used by the department and documents all police officer daily activities. Issues temporary parking permits to visitors and staff as needed and processes and issues Staff and Student parking permits per semester. Other duties as assigned by the Chief of Police or Communication Supervisor.

Requirements

  • At least one year of verifiable experience using telecommunication systems in public safety.
  • Must be willing and able to pass the APCO Basic Safety/Emergency Telecommunications training within six months of the date of hire.
  • Applicant must pass a Police Background check including fingerprinting to be certified to retrieve sensitive police data using the JNET computer program.
  • Must be able to pass all certification testing for the JNET program within one month from the date of hire.
  • Applicant must complete psychological evaluation, physical exam and drug test.
  • Must have the ability to work with a diverse group of people and excellent interpersonal skills
  • High school diploma or equivalent.

Nice To Haves

  • APCO Basic Public Safety/Emergency Telecommunications training is preferred.
