About The Position

This role involves performing dispatch duties for Albina Asphalt in Vancouver, WA. The dispatcher will be responsible for taking and processing load orders, planning and scheduling deliveries, communicating with carriers, and managing loading/unloading processes. The position requires close communication with the Transportation Manager and other department managers regarding any shipping or schedule issues. The dispatcher will also supervise and direct the work of transport and spreader drivers, and liaise with Terminal Managers and the Maintenance Department to ensure equipment maintenance is up-to-date. Utilization of information from the Sales Department is key for optimal results. The role includes processing delivery tickets for accurate billing and assisting the Transportation Manager with 24-hour phone coverage, including being on-call during weekdays and weekends. Maintaining DOT-required records, such as equipment registrations and driver qualification files, and notifying drivers of expiring medical cards and licenses are also crucial responsibilities. Routine clerical work to maintain department records, such as drivers' logs, inspection reports, and fuel usage, will be assigned. Additional duties may include picking up or delivering drivers to repair facilities or collecting parts for company vehicles. A strong commitment to safety and adherence to safe practices is expected. The role may also involve other assigned duties within the transportation department.

Responsibilities

  • Perform dispatch duties, including taking and processing load orders, planning and scheduling load/delivery times, calling carriers, and loading/unloading.
  • Communicate with the Transportation Manager and/or other department managers regarding shipping/schedule issues.
  • Supervise and direct the work of transport and spreader drivers.
  • Communicate with Terminal Managers and the Maintenance Department to ensure equipment work orders are current.
  • Utilize information from the Sales Department for maximum results.
  • Process and post required information on delivery tickets for accurate invoice billing.
  • Assist the Transportation Manager with 24-hour phone coverage, including being on-call during weekdays and weekends.
  • Maintain records and files pertinent to DOT requirements, including equipment registrations and driver qualification files.
  • Notify drivers of expiration of medical cards and Commercial driver licenses.
  • Assist in maintaining records/files pertinent to the department and company.
  • Perform routine clerical work to maintain department records (e.g., drivers' logs, inspection reports, fuel usage).
  • Perform additional duties such as picking up or delivering drivers to repair facilities or picking up parts for company vehicles.
  • Work safely and take action to prevent unsafe actions, processes, and behaviors.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
