About The Position

The Dispatch Supervisor will be responsible for directing the daily driver duties, managing their routes, time, and conclusion of their day. This role ensures DOT compliance related to driver hours of service, interacts with internal and external customers, and manages shift hand-offs to ensure smooth operations. The supervisor will also be involved in entering purchase orders, participating in driver discipline, reviewing driver documents for accuracy and compliance, and selecting external carriers. Additionally, the position involves managing payroll for drivers, overseeing the fleet in a financially efficient and safe manner, coordinating equipment repair and maintenance with vendors, and managing road breakdowns. The supervisor must follow and ensure all employees follow safety policies and rules, complete incident investigation forms, and periodically ride along with drivers to understand their experiences. This is a supervisory position requiring the ability to train, plan, assign, appraise performance, reward, discipline, resolve conflicts, build teams, coach, lead, address complaints, and set an example of superior behavior and teamwork.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Two years experience as a Dispatcher
  • Able to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or graphic form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Regularly required to walk and talk and hear.
  • Frequently required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms.
  • Required to sit and move around.
  • Vision requirements include: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Nice To Haves

  • College and/or related technical experience.
  • Logistics, Transportation, Supply Chain Management experience.
  • One year supervisory experience as a proven manager of at least five people.
  • Four years’ experience in the Shipping and Warehousing environment or CDL Truck Driving Experience.

Responsibilities

  • Put rates in TMW or rate loads/negotiate rates with 3rd party carriers as needed.
  • Direct the daily driver duties managing where they go, the time it takes and when their day is concluded.
  • Manage DOT compliance related to driver available hours of service when assigning loads and daily task.
  • Interact with internal and external customers as needed, including shift hand-off communication.
  • Enter POs as needed.
  • Participate and initiate discipline to drivers as per company policy.
  • Review driver documents for accuracy and/or compliance.
  • Involvement as needed with selecting external carriers to take loads.
  • Manage payroll as needed to ensure Drivers are accurately compensated for work performed.
  • Be responsible for managing the fleet in a financially efficient and safe manner considering service and cost.
  • Manage the fleet flow to the lease vendor’s shops for equipment repair and maintenance.
  • Coordinate and manage road breakdowns with the vendors.
  • Follow all Safety Policies and ensure Drivers and fellow employees follow all Safety policies and rules.
  • Complete incident investigation forms fully with as much detail as possible when a safety related issue or event occurs.
  • Ride alongs with Drivers periodically to ensure the Drivers have what they need and to experience the elements that Drivers experience doing the job.
  • Directly supervise all employees assigned to the department including Drivers.
  • Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
