About The Position

The Dispatch Supervisor is an exempt, salaried position who, under the supervision of the Terminal Manager, is responsible for communicating with drivers, school district personnel and parents for daily routes, trips and extra-curricular activities of students for our clients. In this role the Dispatch Supervisor independently makes decisions for scheduling, routing and management of daily changes and events/incidents. In this role the Dispatch Supervisor may have one or more Dispatchers as direct reports, depending on the size of the operation.

Requirements

  • State-Required Commercial Driver’s License with Passenger and School Bus Endorsements
  • Current drivers physical examination
  • A minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalent
  • PC skills (use of Microsoft Office applications), written and verbal communication skills, and customer service skills are essential. Ability to deal with problems and find solutions. Should provide excellent customer service to external and internal customers.
  • Scheduling and setting priorities for work to be accomplished.
  • Proficient reading, writing, grammar, and mathematics skills
  • Must have knowledge of Federal and State regulations, including EPA and OSHA requirements.
  • Must be willing to participate in classes that are offered to enhance knowledge.
  • Must conduct oneself in a professional manner
  • Ability to evaluate staff and discipline when necessary.
  • Must be highly motivated and demonstrate excellent leadership skills
  • Must make sure staff utilizes all safety equipment
  • Working conditions are normally in an operations environment. Incumbent must be available to work a minimum of 10 hours on school days and 8 hours on non-school days and be available in the evenings and weekends as necessary to meet business needs.
  • This position may require travel to other facilities operated by the company including the home office located in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania.

Responsibilities

  • Follow company policies regarding pupil/client management and relations with parents, teachers, guardians, and the public in general.
  • As required manage and oversee vehicle routing in coordination with the Terminal Manager and the District.
  • Ensure verification of route turn for turn sheets and document any route changes with written notes. Make sure all route books and spreadsheets are kept up to date. Notify the Terminal Manager and District Transportation staff of changes.
  • Make additional directional or landmark notations on bus route sheets to assist future new or substitute bus drivers.
  • Observe and track route timing, such as total time en-route; time between stops; loading and unloading times or any other requested information for the purpose of establishing route efficiency. Report on proposed/recommended changes to the Terminal Manager and District staff.
  • Keep records and submit reports as required. This includes all documentation for complaints, accidents, routing changes, etc.
  • Assist manager with monthly billing, payroll, account receivables, account payables and month end requirements as requested.
  • Assist manager in implementing driver recruitment programs to ensure coverage of daily home to school routes and sufficient substitute personnel.
  • Review events and incidents with Terminal Manager and make recommendations for employee coaching and / or disciplinary action. Assist manager in delivery of coaching or discipline.
  • Assist manager in ensuring all drivers complete all necessary job-related training and planning driver safety meetings.
  • Responsible for carrying out all company policies and State & Federal applicable regulations.
  • Procure or maintain School Bus CDL License. May on occasion be required to drive.
  • Knowledge and implementation of contents of School District contracts.
  • Answering phones and two way company radios.
  • Communicating with schools regarding calendars, complaints, bus incidents. Communicating with parents regarding issues and concerns. Communicating with drivers and aides.
  • Assist manager in development of charter business during non-school days and summer months.
  • All other duties as assigned by Management.
