About The Position

The Sexual Health Clinics in the Bureau of Public Health Clinics provide direct clinical services to people seeking sexual health care as well as providing services to known sex partners; monitors disease trends; provide education and training to providers and community groups, conducts research and develop policies to improve sexual health and wellness. BPHC operates 8 Sexual Health Clinics (SHC) throughout New York City, and the Line Area Manager is key in ensuring that services are provided in an uninterrupted manner. The Supervising Public Health Adviser will work in one of the Bureau's Sexual Health Clinics under the supervision of the Clinic Manager.

Requirements

• A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university, and two years of full-time satisfactory experience in a public health program, performing duties involving case finding, case management, interviewing, investigating and other related public health work, one year of which must have been in a supervisory capacity; or
• An associate degree from an accredited college or university, including or supplemented by twelve semester credits in health education, or in health, social or biological sciences; and four years of experience as described in "1" above, one year of which must have been in a supervisory capacity; or
• A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent approved by a State's Department of Education or a recognized accrediting organization, and six years of experience as described in "1" above, one year of which must have been in a supervisory capacity; or
• A satisfactory combination of education and/or experience equivalent to "1", "2" or "3" above. Undergraduate college credit may be substituted for experience on the basis of 30 semester credits from an accredited college for one year of full-time experience. Twelve credits in the health, social or biological sciences may be substituted for an additional six months of experience. However, all candidates must have a four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent approved by a State's Department of Education or a recognized accrediting organization, and a minimum of two years of experience, one year of which must have been in a supervisory capacity, as described in "1" above.

Responsibilities

• Review daily and weekly line lists of public health clinic to identify individuals requiring follow-up services, including treatment for STIs, and appropriate referrals.
• Support with the supervision and coordination of disease intervention activities carried out by Public Health Advisors to ensure effective and timely responses.
• Serve as the acting Clinic Manager in their absence, by ensuring that required daily reports are submitted within the established timeframes, ensuring seamless clinic operations and compliance with cycle time standards, and foster effective communication and collaboration with staff and management to address employee and client needs while supporting program objectives among other duties.
• Conduct or coordinate partner services interviews with patients diagnosed with reportable sexually transmitted infections, following established public health guidelines and confidentiality requirements.
• Assist with the assignment and distribution of patients among Public Health Advisors (PHAs) across multiple public health clinics to promote equitable workload distribution and timely case management.
• Provide technical assistance and support to clinic staff regarding disease intervention protocols, patient follow-up, and documentation requirements.
• Maintain accurate and complete documentation in appropriate public health information systems while ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local confidentiality regulations.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, within and outside the agency to improve access to prevention, treatment, and supportive services.
• As operational needs require, provide onsite support at public health clinics to assist with patient management, intake/registration, counseling, partner services, waiting room presentations and other clinical support functions.
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives, staff meetings, and training sessions to strengthen program effectiveness and service delivery.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
