About The Position

GFL is expanding and seeking a talented Disability Claims Specialist to join their team in Vaughan. This role involves managing full-cycle short-term and long-term disability claims. The specialist will collaborate closely with Employees, Direct Managers, Vendors, Operations, HR, and other stakeholders to process STD and LTD applications. The primary focus will be on facilitating an early and safe return to work, managing accommodations, and coordinating modified work arrangements. The position reports to the Manager of Disability Management.

Requirements

  • 2–3 years of experience in an HR function, with exposure to disability management.
  • College Diploma or University Degree specializing in Human Resources, with an interest in Disability Management.
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite, particularly Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to communicate with all levels of the organization.
  • Strong attention to detail and high level of accuracy.
  • Self-starting, proactive, and able to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Valid work authorization in the country where the job is located is required.
  • Successful candidates will be required to provide valid documentation confirming their eligibility to work in the country where the job is located prior to their start date.

Responsibilities

  • Manage full-cycle short-term and long-term disability claims, facilitating the application process by working closely with employees and direct managers to explain the process and gather assessment information.
  • Partner with external vendors to determine appropriate return-to-work goals, coordinate return-to-work meetings, and actively support the planning process between employees and supervisors (intervening when necessary).
  • Develop and implement disability management training sessions for the organization.
  • Prepare detailed statistical trend analysis, develop regional injury/trend reports, and expedite monthly reports using graphs and charts.
  • Partner directly with vendors, operations teams, HR, and stakeholders to focus on early and safe return to work, accommodations, and modified duties.
