About The Position

As part of our long-term strategy to elevate our Medical organization and transform the lives of million patients each year, we are seeking a Director, Professional Societies Cardiovascular within our Global Immunology & Cardiovascular teams.The position reports to the Executive Director, Portfolio Strategy Head within WW Medical Immunology & Cardiovascular (ICV) Global Medical Affairs. The Director, Professional Societies Cardiovascular is responsible for developing, leading and excetuing the strategic engagement plan for Worldwide Cardiovascular Professional Societies and Associations. This role works closely with the Portfolio Strategy Head and the Medical teams and additional key internal stakeholders to create and initiate innovative strategies for engagement with professional societies, including initiatives and programs in alignment with specific therapeutic area strategic imperatives. Effective collaboration with organizational leaders is essential to translate strategy into actionable initiatives and projects.

Requirements

  • Experience with professional medical societies and associations preferred
  • BA/BSc degree minimum requirement--in area relevant to Pharmaceutical industry/ Life Sciences preferred) or advanced degree. PharmD, PhD, MD, MS with general knowledge of pharmaceutical operations, i.e., advocacy, medical affairs, clinical development, regulatory, commercialization,
  • 8-10 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry and/or significant experience with stakeholder and organizational engagement or partnerships (public and/or private)
  • Understanding of drug development across the continuum from development to commercialization (Cardiovascular preferred)
  • Strong interpersonal, public communication and negotiation skills
  • Proven track record of managing complex interactions
  • Able to innovate, analyze and solve problems with attention to detail
  • Ability and willingness to travel globally.
  • Previous cross-functional experience is desirable as this position requires a high degree of interaction with teams encompassing Cardiovascular Patient Advocacy, Medical Affairs, Research & Development, Commercialization, Corporate Affairs and other enterprise-wide teams
  • Highly collaborative, possess a track record of building and maintaining cross-functional relationships, and able to communicate business topics effectively with senior management, peers, and others
  • Ability to lead and represent the company and, where appropriate, to follow within a large complex organization and within small working teams.

Responsibilities

  • Developing and leading the strategic engagement plan for Worldwide Cardiovascular Professional Societies and Associations.
  • Serves as the BMS strategic engagement lead with cardiovascular professional societies and associations.
  • Manages and leads interactions with societies and maintains the key strategic relationship for all medical strategic purposes.
  • Collaborates with the Medical teams and additional key internal stakeholders to create and initiate innovative strategies for engagement with professional societies, including initiatives and programs in alignment with specific therapeutic area strategic imperatives.
  • Works cross-functionally and collaboratively to plan, execute, and communicate the Societies’ strategic plan internally and interfaces with leadership and matrix teams appropriately.
  • Thorough understanding the mission and vision of each organization.
  • Serves as the primary relationship manager for professional societies’ community, representing BMS at external meetings, making presentations to appropriate audiences, and preparing internal reports.
  • Is an internal strategic advisor to BMS matrix teams and cross-functional initiatives.
  • Ensures there is alignment and resourcing to execute on the societies’ strategic plan.
  • Develop a framework for Societies engagement and help shape the understanding of the interplay between stakeholders and the complexities of professional societies and associations
  • Supports the Team Leader in educating internal stakeholders about professional societies and the functional role.
  • Shape strategic approach to these organizations and work cross-functionally to ensure buy-in and execution of the plans
  • Maintain regular communication with professional societies and associations to remain current on all activities.
  • Work extensively with BMS senior leaders across multiple departments at BMS including Cardiovascular Development, Discovery, Translational Medicine, HQ and Worldwide Medical, Commercial, Public Affairs, Access and Clinical Operations (as needed) to optimize BMS interactions with the professional societies and professional associations
  • Work with team to support activities both internally and externally, including processes and procedures.
  • Team contributor to optimizing internal and external society engagement procedural and operational best practices.
  • Shape strategic approach to professional organizations and work cross-functionally to ensure buy-in and execution of the plans
  • Provide strategic insight and coordination within the organization for relevant meetings with professional society and association group leaders
  • Lead and align with internal stakeholders in determining the company representation or participation in professional medical societies’/associations’ initiatives and interactions, including but not limited to medical society corporate roundtables, forums, science/clinical-to-science/clinical interactions.
  • Create appropriate budgets and monitor expenditures, revising as needed.
  • Input data into departmental financial tracking system as required.
  • Provide periodic reports and analyses to leadership and team members as needed.
  • Ensure that all activities comply with company policy and legal and regulatory requirements.
  • 100% compliance with company policies and procedures.
