About The Position

The Director of Water/Wastewater provides strategic, operational, and technical leadership for the delivery of water, wastewater, and reclaimed water services, overseeing multidisciplinary teams and ensuring strong performance, collaboration, and delivery excellence. This role translates organizational growth strategies into actionable plans, manages financial and operational outcomes, and ensures the organization is appropriately resourced and aligned to meet project, client, and business development priorities. Serving as a trusted advisor to municipal clients, regulatory agencies, and internal leadership, the Director provides senior oversight of complex infrastructure programs while balancing risk, cost, schedule, quality, and regulatory compliance across diverse systems, including pipelines, pump and lift stations, treatment facilities, tunneling and trenchless projects, rehabilitation programs, and specialized environmental and permitting efforts. The Director leads complex projects and key client relationships while planning 1–3 months ahead to support workforce needs, project delivery, and business development priorities. Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or related field of study.
  • Typically 10–15+ years of experience related to profession, with at least 5 years leading others.
  • Ability to provide senior oversight of complex infrastructure programs while balancing risk, cost, schedule, quality, and regulatory compliance across diverse systems.
  • Experience with a variety of projects including pipelines, pump and lift stations, treatment facilities, tunneling and trenchless projects, rehabilitation programs, and specialized environmental and permitting efforts.
  • Licensed PE, with the ability to obtain additional PE license(s) if necessary.
  • Microsoft Suite Products (e.g. Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint, OneDrive, etc).

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in civil or environmental engineering is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team that includes mid-level leaders, first-level leaders, and/or individual contributors.
  • Lead the scaling of regional, functional, and/or client operations.
  • Translate overall growth strategy into specific team goals and annual operational plans.
  • Secure needed resources and budget for the team.
  • Manage high-level policies and builds a collaborative culture.
  • Oversee financial performance of the water/wastewater group and responsible for revenue targets.
  • Coache, develop, and mentor staff.
  • Manage staff performance, sets individual performance goals, conducts performance reviews, and oversees performance improvement plans.
  • Responsible for workforce planning, hiring and compensation administration of staff in assigned group.
  • May serve as Project Principal, managing other Project Managers, Master Service Agreements (MSA), and overseeing program delivery. May serve as Project Manager on certain projects.
  • Oversee multiple projects, applying technical expertise as needed, including planning and design of water/wastewater pipelines and force mains, pump stations, lift stations, treatment facilities, water supply, environmental permitting, and solids handling.
  • Use AI and digital tools to elevate the quality and speed of projects, double-checking its outputs, and making sure information presented meets technical and ethical standards.
  • Collaborates with staff from multiple offices and/or groups to deliver projects and programs.
  • Set standards for delivery excellence across a department or region.
  • Lead complex, multidisciplinary projects aligned to strategic goals.
  • Own and lead client relationships and key accounts, ensuring strong partnerships, retention, and growth.
  • Develop and execute account strategies to expand services and strengthen client engagement.
  • Identify and drive cross-selling opportunities through internal collaboration.
  • Lead or support pursuit strategies to win new work and new clients.
  • Proactively manage client risk across projects and teams to ensure consistent delivery and experience.
  • Identify market trends and collaboration opportunities.
