About The Position

The Valuation team’s mandate is to hold organizational accountability over the private investments valuation process, playing a key role in final value recommendations. More specifically, the team reviews the valuations of all private asset classes (private equity, infrastructure, real estate, natural resources and credit investments). The team is also responsible for maintaining “best practices” and good governance in private asset valuations. As a Director, Valuation you’ll lead valuation governance processes for real estate managed out of our Montreal office. You will oversee and drive internal and external investment valuation processes in accordance with PSP Valuation Procedure, acting as the primary point of accountability for the coordination of valuation activities with external valuators. You will lead engagement and coordination with investment teams, investment finance, asset managers and external appraisers to support periodic valuation updates. You will be accountable for the oversight and review of fair values for private investments under your review. Leverage advanced analytics and AI-enabled approaches to strengthen valuation review procedures (e.g., anomaly detection, trend/outlier analysis, scenario and sensitivity analytics), while maintaining transparency and auditability. Monitor market events and analyze the impact that these events may have on private investment valuations. Own the delivery and quality of key reporting activities and drive the execution on relevant quarterly valuation reporting under your responsibility. Promote an innovative mindset, identifying opportunities to automate and evolve valuation governance processes and reporting through data and technology. Partner with other internal stakeholders to improve data quality, lineage, and control frameworks supporting valuation governance deliverables. Liaise with the external auditors and play a key role in responding to questions or information requests from external auditors for review under your responsibility. Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders across the organization. Contribute to the continued enhancement of private valuation procedures, processes and methodologies.

Requirements

  • Strong technical and analytical capability, including advanced proficiency with Excel and modern data visualization / BI tools
  • Working knowledge of data querying and automation tools (e.g., SQL, Python) and comfort engaging with technical partners on data requirements
  • Minimum of ten (10) to twelve (12) years of relevant experience
  • University degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Accounting or comparable
  • Fluent in English (spoken and written)

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with Snowflake and/or Databricks to support data management, reporting, and analysis is advantageous
  • Real estate appraisal as well as private debt valuation experience, preferred
  • Relevant Master’s degree is an asset
  • Professional designation is an asset (e.g. MBA, AACI, CPA, CFA, CBV etc.)
  • Additional languages are considered an asset
