About The Position

The Nonclinical Drug Safety (NDS) organization in West Point, PA is seeking a highly motivated individual to lead the Operations group in Toxicology. This group of highly trained and experienced technical staff conducts the antemortem phase of general toxicity studies required to support early discovery through late stage drug development. These studies range in duration from single dose to up to two (2) years.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's (with 14+ years) or Master's (with 10+ years) in Animal Sciences, Biology or a related discipline and relevant toxicology laboratory experience
  • Previous supervisory or management experience
  • Demonstrated comprehensive understanding of and experience with Good Laboratory Practices (US FDA 21 CFR Part 58)
  • Strong commitment to developing staff
  • Strong listening, communication (verbal and written), and leadership skills
  • Familiarity with recording and reviewing laboratory data

Responsibilities

  • Manage a team of toxicology biologists (both direct and indirect reports) and oversee the pre-study and antemortem phases of the nonclinical toxicology studies they conduct
  • Ensure staff are appropriately trained and the laboratory maintains inspection readiness
  • Understand and ensure compliance with SOPs and policies, IACUC protocols, safety trainings, and company policies
  • Mentor and develop staff; leverage diversity of backgrounds, skill sets, capabilities, and experiences
  • Foster a culture of high quality work, performance, accountability, and innovation
  • Lead/oversee regularly scheduled group meetings to disseminate information, discuss study and project updates, and promote team collaboration
  • Provide oversight to operational teams
  • Engage in strategic planning to support the daily operations of the group
  • Collaborate with multiple functional groups within and outside of NDS
