Director, Technical Program Management

BitGoPalo Alto, CA
$200,000 - $230,000Onsite

About The Position

BitGo is seeking a Director, Technical Program Management to build and lead the Technical Program Management (TPM) function from scratch within the R&D organization. This role is critical for ensuring the timely and predictable delivery of product, managing cross-team and cross-entity programs, and building trust between product teams and regulatory, compliance, legal, and finance partners. The position requires a strong focus on execution risk in a regulated financial environment, with significant consequences for missed delivery on regulated commitments. The ideal candidate will be technically credible, operate through influence, and prioritize documentation and dependency mapping over excessive meetings. This is a hands-on role where the initial focus will be on running high-exposure programs, with the expectation of building out the TPM team within the first year.

Requirements

  • 8+ years in technical program management.
  • 3+ years leading TPM teams or functions, ideally including founding one.
  • Demonstrated delivery leadership in a regulated financial environment.
  • Experience running programs with examiner deadlines, audit findings, SOX-adjacent controls, or material-weakness remediation.
  • Understanding of how public-company audit exposure impacts program management.
  • Technically credible with platform engineering; able to read architecture discussions, pressure-test estimates, and engage in sequencing conversations with senior engineers.
  • Demonstrated experience with at least one of: M&A integration, legal-entity restructuring, or large multi-party partner migrations.
  • Ability to operate through influence in organizations where authority is split across reporting lines.
  • Proficiency in writing-first operations, with a preference for documents and dependency maps over status meetings.
  • Ability to coordinate across reporting lines daily, as engineering does not report into product.

Nice To Haves

  • Crypto/digital-asset domain experience.
  • Regulated-fintech delivery scar tissue.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure timely and predictable delivery of product across the entire product portfolio.
  • Manage delivery integrity for dates that are meaningful and reliable.
  • Execute end-to-end cross-team and cross-entity programs, including acquisition integrations, legal-entity restructurings, and partner/vendor migrations.
  • Provide early escalation for any divergence between plans and commitments.
  • Build trust between product teams and regulatory, compliance, legal, finance, and audit partners.
  • Manage programs where product delivery and control exposure intersect, such as new-product regulatory review pipelines and remediation of audit findings.
  • Maintain portfolio dependency and capacity integrity, serving as the single source of truth for resource allocation, program timelines, and at-risk initiatives.
  • Surface contradictions in plans, such as unstaffed critical-path dependencies or duplicate ownership, before they impact quarter-end results.
  • Build a credible picture of 'keep-the-lights-on' load to accurately assess real capacity.
  • Establish and run the product organization's execution-review cadence, ensuring current and honest initiative status, launch readiness for commercial teams, and a functional blocker-escalation path with SLAs.
  • Build the TPM function from scratch within the first year, hiring 1-2 TPMs based on proven need.
  • Set the standard for program management at BitGo, emphasizing outcome accountability, technical fluency, and a light-touch approach to already-delivering teams.
