Director, Technical Data Modernization

Hadrian Automation•Torrance, CA
•$200,000 - $240,000

About The Position

Hadrian is building autonomous factories to reindustrialize America. By combining AI, advanced software, robotics, and full-stack manufacturing, we help aerospace and defense companies build rockets, satellites, aircraft, ships, and other mission-critical systems up to 10x faster and at significantly lower cost. Following our $1.37B Series D at a $7.87B valuation, Hadrian is rapidly expanding our manufacturing footprint, launching new capabilities across welding, casting, forging, electronics, additive manufacturing, and more, while scaling our Factory-as-a-Service platform to transform how critical products are built. Backed by leading investors including JPMorgan Chase, Valor Equity Partners, Andreessen Horowitz, Founders Fund, 137 Ventures, Lux Capital, T. Rowe Price, and Morgan Stanley, we’re building the future of American manufacturing—and looking for exceptional people to help make it happen. If you’re ready to take on the most challenging and rewarding work of your career while helping create American manufacturing jobs for generations to come, you’re exactly who we’re looking for. The Role: Much of the technical data behind US defense systems is decades old: scanned paper, hand-marked prints, and drawings that were never turned into 3D models. Hadrian is building a team to turn that data into modern, manufacturing-ready models and drawings. Customers can then keep their systems running, and those parts can be quoted, made at Hadrian, or procured. The team supports multiple defense programs that need this work now. The first priority is a large, multi-year technical data migration for a defense customer. The team works alongside Hadrian's software to convert each technical data package and confirm it is right before it goes to the customer. As Director, you build and run that operation, growing it from a small founding team into a large organization. You report to the Senior Director of Central Quality and NPI.

Requirements

  • Built and ran a high-volume technical operation, such as production, engineering services, or drawing conversion, and grew it to 50 or more people.
  • Hired and trained people quickly, and kept them engaged in repetitive work.
  • Runs an operation on throughput and quality data.
  • 3+ years leading other leaders.
  • Enough engineering-drawing depth to own the quality bar, including GD&T and model-based definition.
  • You raise problems early and make decisions without waiting for full consensus.
  • Engineering or STEM degree, or equivalent hands-on experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Built a team from the ground up at a startup or a fast-growing company.
  • Ran a large legacy-to-modern technical data or PLM migration, including the team and its throughput.
  • Worked alongside a software team to automate a manual engineering process.
  • Teamcenter or CATIA experience.
  • Naval, submarine, or federal technical data program experience.

Responsibilities

  • Build the operating model for each program, starting with the migration: the standard workflow, the training, and the quality controls that confirm each package matches its source data before it goes to the customer.
  • Work with the software team so the process and the automation tools improve together, and the manual effort per package keeps falling.
  • Plan and run the hiring ramp: sourcing, location, training, and retention.
  • Balance capacity across programs, track throughput and quality against each program's schedule, and fix the bottleneck.
  • Hire and develop the leaders who run the team day to day.
  • Meet each program's data-handling rules while keeping the quality call.

Benefits

  • Medical, dental, vision, and life insurance plans for employees
  • 401k
