About The Position

This individual will be joining the Corporate Tax team in Denver, responsible for supporting the State and Local Income Tax function, including compliance, controversy and planning. This Director-level position will manage key aspects of the Company's multistate income tax function and serve as a strategic advisor on state tax matters impacting the organization. The role will partner closely with federal tax, accounting, legal, government affairs, and external advisors to ensure effective management of state income tax compliance, reporting, planning, and controversy activities.

Requirements

Minimum of 10-12 plus years of state and local income tax experience.
Significant experience leading complex multistate corporate income tax functions within a large corporate environment.
Leverage deep technical expertise in state income tax compliance, reporting, planning, and controversy management.
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business.

Nice To Haves

Financial services industry experience is a plus.
Masters in Taxation/CPA and/or JD preferred.

Responsibilities

Manage key aspects of the Company's multistate income tax function.
Serve as a strategic advisor on state tax matters impacting the organization.
Partner closely with federal tax, accounting, legal, government affairs, and external advisors.
Ensure effective management of state income tax compliance, reporting, planning, and controversy activities.
Analyze and advise on sourcing, apportionment, nexus, state modifications, and the impact of evolving state tax laws on complex corporate structures.
Develop and implement strategic state tax planning initiatives in response to legislative, regulatory, and judicial developments.
Lead state tax audits, examinations, appeals, and other controversy matters with taxing authorities.
Communicate complex tax concepts effectively to executives, business leaders, and tax professionals.
Lead, coach, and develop high-performing teams while fostering collaboration and professional growth.
Apply strong analytical, research, and problem-solving skills to resolve complex multistate tax issues and deliver practical business solutions.
Prepare clear and concise technical memoranda, audit responses, and executive-level presentations.
Manage multiple priorities and lead cross-functional initiatives in a fast-paced environment.
Build strong partnerships across tax, finance, legal, and business teams to achieve strategic objectives.
