Position Summary The Director of Tax must be a “hands-on” self-starter who can function as the in-house expert and facilitator on all things tax related. The ideal candidate is a highly accountable, detail-oriented leader with strong foundational GAAP knowledge and a demonstrated control mindset. This person should also have the ability to create strong relationships with key internal and external stakeholders and should possess a combination of strong technical knowledge, leadership skills, significant experience with income tax provisions, income tax compliance, indirect taxes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or equivalent.
  • Minimum ten years of experience with a combination of Big Four and a publicly traded company.
  • Active CPA license.

  • Diagnostic industry experience.
  • Master’s degree.
  • Proven track record of building and maintaining strong control environments, including SOX compliance and audit interaction.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate with high ownership, accountability, and responsiveness in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure technical accuracy and defensibility of all ASC 740 positions, including proper distinction between errors and changes in estimate under ASC 250, and clear documentation of judgments.
  • Own full lifecycle of tax provision and compliance, including rigorous provision-to-return analysis with clear explanations of all variances.
  • Oversee and manage various tax-related filings and related audits, including property taxes, payroll taxes, etc.
  • Manage special projects such as tax planning, sales/use/withholding tax assistance as needed.
  • Design, implement, and enforce strong internal controls, including high-quality tax supporting schedules and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Act as a hands-on reviewer and control owner, ensuring all reconciliations, journal entries, and supporting schedules meet a high standard of precision, clarity, and audit readiness.
  • Review annual statutory tax provisions and the financial statements of foreign subsidiaries as prepared under local GAAP.
  • Establish clear expectations for responsiveness, communication, and timeliness across the tax function, including prompt email follow-up and cross-functional coordination.
