This is an on-site position and can be based from any of Asure's hub office locations including Austin, TX; Santa Ana, CA; Burlington, VT; Cherry Hill, NJ; Rochester, NY; Tampa, FL; or Cherry Hill, NJ The Tax Implementation Director is responsible for overseeing the successful onboarding and setup of tax services for new and transitioning clients. This role ensures that tax configurations, registrations, data transfers, and process alignments are accurately established during the implementation phase of the HRIS/HCM platform. The position requires coordination across tax, implementation, payroll, and compliance teams to ensure client readiness and regulatory adherence.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field.
  • 8+ years of experience in payroll tax, tax compliance, or implementation, with at least 3 years in a leadership or project management role.
  • Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local tax registration and filing requirements.
  • Experience implementing tax configurations within an HRIS/HCM platform.
  • Familiarity with multi-jurisdictional payroll tax compliance and employer tax obligations.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Direct and manage the end-to-end tax implementation process for new clients, including onboarding planning, execution, and transition to production support.
  • Oversee setup of federal, state, and local tax accounts, ensuring accurate data entry and documentation.
  • Ensure correct configuration of employer tax settings in the system, including rates, jurisdiction mapping, and tax codes.
  • Manage timelines, deliverables, and status reporting for tax-related implementation components.
  • Coordinate with internal teams (Implementation, Payroll, Compliance, Tax Operations) to ensure alignment on tax setup requirements and dependencies.
  • Serve as the escalation point for tax-specific setup issues and manage resolution of discrepancies, errors, or missing information.
  • Monitor compliance risks during implementation and escalate potential exposures.
  • Support audit readiness and documentation of processes, decisions, and approvals during onboarding.
  • Maintain knowledge of regulatory changes affecting payroll tax setup and incorporate updates into implementation procedures.
  • Provide leadership, training, and support to implementation staff on tax requirements and best practices.
