Director, Student Connection and Leadership Center Each full-time employee in the Student Connection and Leadership Center (SCLC) supports student efforts to fulfill the SCLC’s mission and vision, which emphasize integrity, skill development, inclusion, service, Christ-centered leadership, and student-centered experiences. The SCLC Director oversees the training and supervision of full-time staff, mentors BYUSA student leaders (including the President, Executive Vice President, and Presidency), and manages key resources such as budgets and facilities. The director also leads department-wide evaluation, budgeting, and strategies for recruitment, retention, and engagement of staff and student leaders, while planning and implementing BYUSA Elections to promote student growth and meaningful interaction. Ultimately, the director is accountable to the university for all departmental programs, actions, and student engagement. Please note: This position requires evening and weekend availability.

Requirements

  • A firm commitment to the mission of BYU
  • Master’s degree in Student Affairs or a related field
  • 5 years of experience in higher education administration/leadership.

Nice To Haves

  • Graduate-level studies beyond Master’s degree, prior experience in the Student Connection and Leadership Center or Student Leadership
  • 10 years of experience in higher education administration/leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate department/program effectiveness, inclusivity, and alignment with mission using assessment tools and data
  • Manage budgeting, finance, resources, and operational integrity
  • Build relationships, teach leadership courses, and lead staff coordination (e.g., weekly meetings)
  • Supervise, mentor, and evaluate full-time staff; oversee annual performance development plans and accountability
  • Address employee needs and engagement through feedback, interventions, and workplace improvements
  • Engage in professional development and collaborate regularly with senior leadership (e.g., Associate Dean)
  • Mentor student leaders (including BYUSA presidency) and oversee student involvement in budgeting and decision-making
  • Facilitate student growth through leadership, skill-building, and mission-centered experiences
  • Train, supervise, and evaluate student employees while promoting engagement and accountability
  • Develop and assess programs aligned with department vision using data-driven tools and objectives
  • Oversee budgets, resource allocation, event/program design, and volunteer recruitment strategies
  • Supervise BYUSA elections and initiatives while promoting innovation and effective use of technology
  • Serve on department, division, and campus committees and assignments as needed
  • Chair key groups (Evaluation/Assessment/Implementation; Strategy and Vision)
