About The Position

The Director, Strategy & Executive Affairs provides strategic and executive support to the President/Chief Executive Officer (CEO), enabling Unity Health Care’s leadership to work effectively with internal and external stakeholders and fulfill commitments to patients, staff, partners, funders, and the Board of Directors.

This role serves as a strategic advisor and thought partner to the CEO while helping translate organizational priorities into execution, accountability, and measurable results. The Director will oversee high-priority initiatives, facilitate executive leadership alignment, support strategic planning and organizational effectiveness, and coordinate key Board and community engagement activities.

The successful candidate will be highly organized, proactive, discreet, and comfortable operating in a fast-paced executive environment. This position requires a combination of strategic thinking, strong project management, exceptional communication skills, and the flexibility to work effectively behind the scenes while influencing outcomes across the organization.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or a related field preferred.
• Minimum of five (5) years of progressive leadership experience in a healthcare, nonprofit, or community health setting, including direct support to a CEO and/or executive leadership.
• Proven ability to manage complex, cross-functional initiatives and ensure alignment with organizational priorities and goals.
• Strong skills in strategic planning, communication, project management, and facilitation.
• Demonstrated ability to prepare and lead executive-level meetings and discussions.
• Exceptional problem-solving and decision-making skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain effective relationships with staff, senior leaders, external partners, community stakeholders, and donors.
• Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities and complex projects from conception through completion.
• Demonstrated proactive approach to identifying and resolving issues.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to perform effectively under pressure.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Ability to travel approximately 10–30%, primarily within Washington, DC, to attend community events and organizational meetings.

Responsibilities

• Support the CEO in establishing day-to-day priorities and identifying matters requiring executive attention.
• Serve as a strategic advisor and thought partner to the CEO on major internal and external initiatives.
• Translate CEO and organizational priorities into clear execution plans, follow-through, and accountability.
• Manage and facilitate key executive leadership meetings, including the weekly Executive Leadership Team meeting.
• Research, prioritize, and follow up on issues and concerns directed to the CEO.
• Track strategic and operational progress using organizational data and reporting tools.
• Ensure timely and effective communication between the CEO’s office, senior leadership, and staff.
• Proactively identify and escalate issues that may impact organizational success.
• Support executive leadership effectiveness, coordination, decision tracking, and accountability.
• Manage calendars, agendas, data collection, documentation, and action items for executive leadership meetings.
• Coordinate regular alignment across organizational leadership and departments.
• Develop agendas and facilitate ad hoc leadership meetings to ensure discussions remain focused on strategic priorities and result in meaningful action.
• Prepare and present executive-level materials, briefings, presentations, and data analyses to support decision-making.
• Lead project management for high-priority organizational initiatives.
• Conduct research, analyze data, prepare briefing materials, and develop presentations for internal and external audiences.
• Serve as an integrator for cross-functional planning and implementation of major initiatives, particularly those supporting the strategic plan and annual business plans.
• Own the process for tracking strategic plan objectives and annual organizational priorities.
• Maintain a cross-functional view of key projects to ensure alignment with strategic priorities, appropriate timing, and adequate resources.
• Identify opportunities to improve efficiencies and strengthen connections between high-priority initiatives.
• Track implementation of the strategic plan, annual priorities, and key organizational commitments.
• Support process improvement and organizational culture initiatives.
• Serve as the CEO’s delegate at select meetings and community events to gather information and communicate key organizational messages.
• Identify opportunities for meaningful CEO engagement with community partners and stakeholders.
• Support Board of Directors affairs, including development of Board meeting agendas, materials, and communications as directed by the CEO.
• Provide administrative support to the CEO on ongoing business matters.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the CEO.
