About The Position

The Wellness Director for the Standing Rock Tribal Health leads the development, coordination, and implementation of culturally grounded wellness initiatives that promote physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being. This position is responsible for advancing community-wide behavioral health outreach, strengthening access to services, and fostering resilience among individuals and families across all eight districts of Standing Rock. The Director serves as a key liaison between the community, behavioral health providers, and partner organizations, ensuring services are accessible, culturally relevant, and responsive to emerging needs.

Requirements

Will be required to ensure program compliance of Title XVIII-Tribal Employees, Title XXVII-Employee Code of Ethics, Drug-Free Workplace Policy, Personnel and Financial Policies and Procedures, Employment Security, Computer Usage and tribal Internet, Cell and PDA Policy accordingly.
Will be required to demonstrate working knowledge of 638 contract and compliance requirements and financial accountability working within budgets.
Will be required to demonstrate working knowledge of third party billing for behavioral health services.
Will be required to facilitate suicide/depression prevention/intervention education, awareness, youth wellness activities, cultural identity activities to promote healthy lifestyles and program development training to children, youth, parents, families and elders on an ongoing basis.
Will be required to coordinate activities utilizing the Lakota/Dakota mental health perspective (Lakota/Dakota First Aid) in the communities.
Will be required to complete tasks under general supervision and exercise independent judgment in maintaining and expanding the services of health education.
Will be required to demonstrate cultural sensitivity in regard to program and service delivery.
Will be required to demonstrate facilitation and time management skills.
Will be required to strictly adhere to confidentiality and code of ethics in accordance with program services delivered.
Will be required to learn and operate new software applications as it applies to data collection and reporting instruments.
Will be required to work evenings and weekends as necessary.
Will be required to complete monthly, quarterly and yearly program reports as required.
Will be required to serve in a liaison capacity between Tribal Health Administration and other mental health service organizations (Tribal, State, Federal, private institutions, entities).
Will be required to coordinate, collaborate and communicate with local, tribal, state and national youth and family programs and agencies.

Nice To Haves

A Masters’s Degree in Social Work, Counseling or related Social Science field preferred. Qualifying education and experience will be considered in lieu of Master’s degree requirement.
Must possess strong computer skills with working knowledge of Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, Power Point, and Publisher).
Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills and be able to understand and carry out both verbal and written instructions and request clarification when needed.
Must possess a strong work ethic and organizational skills with special attention to detail.
Must have ability to maintain tact, courtesy, composure and flexibility when dealing with a variety of sensitive circumstances.
Must possess a valid driver’s license and current vehicle insurance.
Must successfully pass required background check at the state and tribal level; that the applicant has never been convicted of child abuse/neglect or any violent crimes.

Responsibilities

Responsible for the administration, management and compliance of the Standing Rock Wellness Program funded under the 638 Suicide Prevention Contract.
Responsible for timely completion and submission of monthly, quarterly and annual reports to HEW Committee, Tribal Council and other Federal Agencies as required by the 638’ Suicide Prevention Contract.
Responsible to conduct reconciliation of program fund accounts, prepares budget modifications and consults contract representative regarding budgets and expenditures to ensure program expenditures of Tribal Wellness funds are appropriately charged to assigned accounts and within budgetary allowance.
Responsible to prepare for required contract monitoring activity; working closely with the Tribal Health Director, Contracting office and Contract Representative to ensure program fiscal operation is in compliance with funding agency requirements and procedures.
Responsible for seeking additional funding through grants and proposals to supplement the effort of improving and expanding services of the Tribal Wellness Program.
Oversee the Owozani Project and associated behavioral health contracts and services.
Meet regularly, including weekly when appropriate, with IHS behavioral health representatives to coordinate services, referrals, crisis follow-up, barriers to care, and continuity of care.
Develop and implement culturally relevant suicide prevention and behavioral health prevention strategies throughout the Standing Rock Service Area.
Responsible to coordinate and facilitate workshops to promote an understanding and importance of strengthening the physical, emotional and mental health.
Responsible to develop and implement youth and family wellness initiatives to provide culturally relevant activities that foster development of self-esteem, self-awareness, self-identity, and self-identity.
Responsible to recruit community volunteers and interested Tribal programs to be trained in identifying and assisting in accessing available resources to individuals in need of mental and emotional support.
Responsible to collaborate with mental health professionals in effort to respond to suicide and depression crises and maintain communication with individuals that are identified as high risk or at risk.
Coordinate follow-up for individuals who experience suicidal ideation or a suicide attempt and do not return for recommended care, including referrals, scheduling, resource navigation, and transportation assistance when available.
Coordinate appropriate follow-up with families experiencing untimely losses and connect individuals and families with existing behavioral health, treatment, cultural, spiritual, grief, and other appropriate services.
Coordinate with CHR and other programs regarding transportation needs, including transportation home following inpatient behavioral health treatment when funding and resources are available.
Responsible to submit grant proposals and research other sources of supplemental funding.
Responsible to research current mental, emotional and culturally relevant suicide prevention strategies that incorporate the Lakota/Dakota perspectives.
Responsible to conduct public service announcements and information regarding suicide prevention strategies and available resources.
Responsible for the fiscal management of contract and grants including cuff accounts, tracking invoices, expenditures, allocations, financial transactions and records.
Establish appropriate processes to monitor and track behavioral health crisis events, including suicidal ideation, suicide attempts, and suicide completions, to the extent information is lawfully available and consistent with privacy and confidentiality requirements.
Monitor program performance, identify service gaps and barriers to care, and develop recommendations for improving behavioral health prevention, coordination, referral, and follow-up services.
Responsible to review criteria for use in determining eligibility and approval projects for funding under the Standing Rock Wellness Program.
Responsible to provide oversight and supervision of the Tribal Wellness Program staff and for tracking and conducting staff evaluations.
Responsible for performing other Tribal Health Administration related duties as delegated.
