About The Position

This position's responsibilities include the implementation of all department goals to meet the district mission for instructional support. The director is responsible for directing all district programs that traditionally were departmentalized and is responsible for the success of those programs at designated locations. Programs typically included within this area of responsibility include: special education programs at all levels mandated, extended school year services, federally funded supplementary programs, regular education and handicapped student suspensions/expulsions, Seriously Behaviorally Disabled Program, home-hospital, home schooling, health curriculum health services program. Also, is responsible for drafting/supporting and monitoring of 504 plans relating to students.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in an administration.
  • Five years experience in public education, including special education, related services, and relevant administrative positions.
  • Must have valid certifications for building or program administration in the state of Washington.
  • Requires fingerprinting and background check to determine that there have been no convictions involving physical molestation, abuse, injury or neglect of a minor.

Responsibilities

  • Develop strategies, materials, curriculum, and processes to meet student needs in all instructional support programs in concert with district mission, goals, and objectives.
  • Initiate, coordinate, and supervise in-service for regular and instructional staff on issues related to the success of students within the instructional support responsibility.
  • Train staff to use multiple decision-making processes for site-based program management.
  • Develop an ongoing evaluation process of instructional support programs and respond to the implications of the data gathered.
  • Develop and disseminate management plans for all instructional support services.
  • Monitor all locations to ensure compliance with all program regulations and policies, including the preparation of all federal, state, and district reports.
  • Initiate and carry out needs assessment of students, staff, and facilities for program planning and implementation.
  • Coordinate individual student transportation requirements with the parents, program, and building administrators.
  • Provide assistance in recruitment and hiring of qualified instructional support staff.
  • Plan and supervise extended school year activities.
  • Develop budgets that are responsive to the collaborative vision for meeting the needs of each student.
  • Form and lead mandated citizens' advisory groups and task forces.
  • Be actively involved at local, state, and federal administrative and program association meetings as a district representative.
  • Establish and maintain liaisons, including contractual relationships with appropriate public agencies including inter-district agreements.
  • Coordinate student placement in instructional support programs.
  • Plan and implement effective student transition between elementary and secondary programs addressing curricular, social, and program focuses.
  • Responsible for drafting/supporting and monitoring of 504 plans relating to students and staff.
  • Perform such other duties as may be assigned by the Superintendent or designee
