About The Position

The Director, Software Engineering is responsible for directing a diverse team of software engineers in building foundational components for OCC’s Renaissance Risk Platform. This role involves making sound technical decisions regarding design, architecture, and development to enrich and advance the platform. The position requires designing and delivering low-latency, fault-tolerant real-time financial data pipeline systems with specialized expertise in Apache Kafka and Apache Flink, including advanced performance profiling, memory optimization, and throughput tuning for high-volume enterprise workloads. The role also involves creative problem-solving, effective communication, and proactive engagement in technical decision-making. Additionally, the Director will lead the architecture and implementation of enterprise financial risk processing systems, focusing on high-concurrency, low-latency risk computation engines, real-time event-driven microservices, and complex quantitative risk model integrations. This includes aggregating, processing, and modeling financial risk data from heterogeneous source platforms at an enterprise scale. The Director will act as a technical product owner, flushing out detailed business, architectural, and design requirements, and leading the development of solution architectures on the Renaissance Risk Platform core team. The role also entails executing large-scale cloud migration strategies, including AWS infrastructure and CI/CD automation with Jenkins, Harness, and Docker, to modernize legacy financial systems while ensuring zero-downtime delivery for terabyte-scale data workloads. Driving enterprise-level architecture initiatives, flushing out reference architectures with POCs/Designs, and implementing end-to-end production observability frameworks using Splunk and AppDynamics for distributed financial streaming applications are also key responsibilities. The Director will solicit technical requirements from business stakeholders, translate them into flexible, scalable, and resilient design proposals, and review architecture proposals with tech leads and senior business partners. Leading and directing teams to deliver complex IT projects, analyzing, documenting, and maintaining architectures, and recommending technologies to improve efficiency and quality are also part of the role. Up to 40% telecommuting is permitted.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, or related field.
• Seven (7) years of experience as an application developer, software engineer, Java developer, or related.
• Work experience in designing and delivering low-latency, fault-tolerant real-time financial data pipeline systems requiring specialized expertise in Apache Kafka and Apache Flink, including advanced performance profiling, memory optimization, and throughput tuning for high-volume enterprise workloads.
• Work experience in directing the architecture and implementation of enterprise financial risk processing systems requiring deep expertise in Java, Spring Boot, and Apache Flink, including design of high-concurrency, low-latency risk computation engines, real-time event-driven microservices, and complex quantitative risk model integrations to aggregate, process, and model financial risk data from heterogeneous source platforms at enterprise scale.
• Work experience in executing large-scale cloud migration strategies requiring specialized knowledge of AWS infrastructure and CI/CD automation using Jenkins, Harness, and Docker to modernize complex legacy financial systems while sustaining zero-downtime delivery across terabyte-scale data workloads.
• Work experience in implementing end-to-end production observability frameworks for distributed financial streaming applications requiring advanced expertise in Splunk and AppDynamics for real-time performance monitoring, anomaly detection, and incident resolution at enterprise scale.
