About The Position

The Director, Software Engineering will lead Reuters' content management systems engineering organization, with direct responsibility for the platform underpinning content creation, editorial workflows, and publishing on Reuters.com. Reporting to the VP, Software Engineering, this leader will direct the technical strategy, architecture, and delivery of Reuters' CMS platform through a major transition, building and leading the engineering, editorial-tooling, and delivery teams responsible for its day-to-day operation and long-term evolution. This is a hands-on leadership role: the Director is expected to act as a principal engineer when needed, providing direct technical guidance on both front-end and back-end challenges, not just organizational oversight. This leadership position will shape the technical roadmap for Reuters' CMS platform, translating editorial and business requirements into a scalable, reliable architecture. The ideal candidate will build and lead a high-performing engineering organization spanning platform engineering, editorial tooling, and delivery operations, while establishing the standards, processes, and talent needed to support Reuters' journalism at scale. Success requires deep technical expertise in modern web and cloud architecture, proven people leadership across multiple teams, and a clear point of view on where AI can responsibly accelerate how the organization builds and ships software.
