About The Position

Our comprehensive and integrated 24/7 programs are designed to offer the holistic care our clients need. With a staff of 950+ and an annual budget of $140 million, Project Renewal is one of the larger social service nonprofits in New York City. The New Providence Women’s shelter is located within the Ramada Inn in West Midtown Manhattan and provides 100 emergency shelter beds for homeless women diagnosed with mental illness and/or substance use disorders. Our comprehensive services include case management, individual and group counseling, recreational activities, and housing placement assistance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with 2 years’ experience working with individuals who struggle with homelessness, mentally illness and substance use and/or other special needs populations; 1 year of which must be supervisory in nature.
  • Knowledge of case management software as well as proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Master’s degree in social work or related human services field is strongly preferred.
  • Leadership: Demonstrated ability to manage and motivate staff to accomplish stated program goals and objectives while developing their individual and group skills.
  • Program Evaluation and Performance Management: Capacity to develop/exhibit, in collaboration with the staff and the Performance Evaluation and Quality Assurance Department (PEQA), the ability to independently evaluate and manage program performance using data.
  • Team building: Ability to develop and foster, through demonstration, a team spirit, enabling staff to overcome the challenges of providing services needed to a special client population.
  • Communication: Excellent oral, writing, listening, and negotiating skills.
  • Organizational: The ability to work well within a high-pressure environment and meet the short and long-term mandates of the program.
  • Interpersonal: An ability to interface with clients as well as all levels of staff.
  • Bilingual or multilingual a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Overall coordination and delivery of human services to the clients of the New Providence Shelter.
  • Serves as a liaison between New Providence and both assigned Shelter ACT Team and Access to Treatment Substance Use Disorder providers.
  • Coordinates service delivery with on-site medical, psychiatric, residential aide, occupational therapy and recreation departments.
  • Ensures staff adherence to DHS and Project Renewal policies and procedures.
  • Conducts regular quality assurance reviews.
  • Primary liaison with DHS regarding client assignments, transfers, and exits.
  • Collaborates with the Shelter Director and other senior staff to develop and implement program policies and procedures, disseminates these to staff, and update them as needed.
  • Develops and implements policies and procedures to comply with requirements from the Department of Homeless Services (DHS) and the Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance (OTDA).
  • Supervises social service staff in performing the intake process, ensuring that all protocols are being followed, and that the Statement of Rights/Responsibilities, and any other required documents have been provided to each client.
  • Provides the day-to-day coordination of clinical services in the facility through collaboration with medical, psychiatric and social service personnel, to ensure that clients’ assessments, linkages to services and coordination of services are being provided by staff.
  • Acts as primary liaison to the Department of Homeless Services (DHS) regarding clinical issues.
  • Ensures that linkages and coordination of services are being done by staff and properly documented.
  • Attends and participates in scheduled DHS meetings.
  • Conducts performance assessments by auditing charts and reviewing data in external databases.
  • Develop staff through team meetings, individual supervision and in-service education as needed for all levels of staff.
  • Monitors the staff’s timely completion of all clients’ intake processes, assessments, psychosocial, progress notes, referrals and independent living plans.
  • Prepares and submits the statistical and reporting requirements of DHS and Division of Health and Mental Health (DOHMH).
  • Provides guidance and direction to the Housing Specialist ensuring that HRA2010E packages are being generated and given to DHS as well as other housing providers.
  • Develops and trains staff in protocols to be followed in clinical emergencies.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Shelter Director.
  • Available on call 24/7/365 basis for either a response or coordination of activities in all clinical emergencies.
