About The Position

The Director Social Media serves as the strategic architect of WashU Medicine’s social footprint. This role will lead the overarching vision for flagship accounts while moving forward the governance and policy framework for department-level channels. This position requires a data-driven leader who balances high-level strategy with operational excellence, ensuring every post advances the organization’s mission. And it is key that the director acts as a collaborator that unifies diverse voices into a cohesive, world-class social brand presence.

Responsibilities

  • Develop a comprehensive content strategy for social media based upon key priorities, competitive insights and marketplace trending issues/topics.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including marketing strategists, designers, copywriters, communicators analytics specialists and university social team members to execute content initiatives effectively.
  • Define target audience personas, determining content themes, and establishing key messaging pillars.
  • Create and maintain content calendar, ensuring a consistent publishing schedule across various social media channels.
  • Schedule posts, coordinate content production timelines, and align with key events or campaigns.
  • Lead enterprise-level strategy for social media, running a “center-of-excellence” to guide WashU Medicine’s twenty-one departments, education programs and other units, ensuring social footprint is being optimized for audiences, brand consistency and maximum reach.
  • Collaborate with compliance and leadership and university social media team to edit and deploy social media policies for the organization and departments to follow, staying abreast of new strategies and cautions moving forward.
  • Monitor and respond to audience interactions, comments, and messages.
  • Fostering positive engagement, addressing inquiries or concerns, and escalating issues as needed.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest features and best practices for each social media platform (e.g., Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, TikTok), adapting content strategies accordingly.
  • Manage multiple accounts and ensuring brand consistency across platforms.
  • Track and report on the performance of social media content, using relevant KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) such as engagement rate, reach, and conversion metrics.
  • Analyze social media data and metrics to identify trends, insights, and opportunities for optimization.
  • Stay informed about emerging trends, algorithm changes, and new technologies shaping the landscape in a manner that adapts strategies proactively and maintain a competitive edge.
  • Performs other duties as needed.
