Generally, employees are expected to work three or more days in-office each week with flexibility depending on their business, client and team needs. Reporting to the Senior Director, SLC Financial Reporting and Capital Management, the Director, SLC Finance is a key member of the Finance team, responsible for supporting financial accounting and reporting, cash management, and providing inputs into legal entity and Management Equity Plan (MEP) reporting. This role also has matrix line reporting to the Senior Director, SLC Accounting & Controls. The Director will collaborate closely with SLC and Corporate Finance teams to deliver timely, accurate management information and reporting to senior leadership. This role offers a strong opportunity to build relationships across Sun Life and gain exposure to a broad range of finance activities, including accounting, reporting, and analytics, as the business continues to grow.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree with experience in finance or reporting related functions (7+ years) combined with a finance background.
  • Professional accounting designation (CPA, CA, CMA, CGA).
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with an ability to summarize detailed information to relevant stakeholders.
  • Self-starter with ability to drive progress and execute on assigned deliverables.
  • Strong problem solving and time management skills and able to handle conflicting priorities while driving desired results.
  • Keen attention to detail with an inquiring mindset to strive for process efficiencies and improvements.
  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with individuals at all levels of the organization.
  • Strong experience with the effective use of financial reporting systems and tools.
  • Aptitude to coach and mentor more junior level staff.
  • Ability to operate in an environment experiencing rapid change, and work under pressure to meet demanding response times, while paying strict attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools including Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with SAP, Power BI, and/or Tableau will be an asset.
  • Experience with working at a Financial Institution especially in the Asset Management space will be a valuable asset.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the quarterly MEP cash disbursement process including preparation and coordination of board materials, bank disbursements and legal entity accounting for capital transactions.
  • Lead the Equity Pick Up accounting process including review of journal entries in SAP, ensuring balances are accurate and aligned with reporting and accounting requirements.
  • Build and manage an intercompany reconciliation and settlement process.
  • Support operationalization of accounting models and ledger set-up.
  • Ensure that an adequate control environment is maintained for SLC and coordinate with SLC’s subsidiaries to support a stable control environment, including quarterly ICFR processes for the accounting close.
  • Support reporting and analytics for SLC’s financial results, includes trending of financial information to gain insights into management reporting.
  • Collaborate with various SLC teams, learn new accounting requirements, provide accounting insights, and assist with issue resolutions.
  • Drive automation initiatives, identifying opportunities to eliminate manual processes and implement digital solutions.
  • Support and lead various strategic SLC initiatives, such as SLC Legal Restructuring Project, SAP GL updates and enhancements, etc.
