Provide cross functional operational site leadership for Amgen Thousand Oaks, overseeing a network of Global Facility Operations, Environmental Health and Safety, Security, R&D, Operations, Commercial and Corporate Function leaders. Ensure site maintains a high state of emergency preparedness for a $2B site with essential enterprise capabilities in Research and Manufacturing

Requirements

  • Doctorate degree and 4 years of operational leadership experience (e.g. – operations, crisis management, emergency response, business continuity planning) in biotech sector OR Master’s degree and 8 years of operational leadership experience (e.g. – operations, crisis management, emergency response, business continuity planning) in biotech sector OR Bachelor’s degree and 10 years of operational leadership experience (e.g. – operations, crisis management, emergency response, business continuity planning) in biotech sector
  • At least 4 years experience directly managing people and/or leadership experience leading teams, projects, programs, or directing the allocation or resources.
  • Managerial experience may run concurrently with the required technical experience referenced above
  • Advise and persuade site leaders to enhance site emergency preparedness
  • Ability to apply science-based problem solving and application of new technologies (e.g. AI, Drone technology)
  • Capable of working across cross functional team to find optimal solutions
  • Able to communicate effectively across teams and under emergent situations (GFO, EHSS, Security, HR, Law, etc)
  • Must demonstrate trust and respect to site stakeholders and leaders (Director to VP)

Nice To Haves

  • 14+ years of operational leadership experience (eg. – operations, crisis management, emergency response, business continuity planning) in biotech sector
  • Demonstrated experience of operational experience with laboratory, manufacturing and administrative staff, facilities and equipment
  • Strong technical experience with communications and drone technologies
  • MS, PhD preferred

Responsibilities

  • Provide On Site Leadership as Deputy Site Lead (on site presence 3-4 days a week).
  • Serve as back up IMT lead as needed.
  • Update, improve, test and implement business continuity plans to ensure business resilience (e.g. –Cross functional alignment across GFO, Security, EHSS, Labs, Manufacturing, etc)
  • Ensure cross functional integration across GFO, Security, EHSS, HR, Law, Operations, PD, Research and Commercial to improve site business resilience and operational performance.
  • Emergencies (e.g. - Wildfire Risk Mitigation, Earthquakes, Utility Outages). Ensure cross functional alignment between GFO, Security, EHSS, contract fire fighting service and local agencies.
  • Emerging technologies. Use of GPS, drone and AI to enhance security of site and safety of staff.
  • Partner with cross functional site leaders to ensure site amenities and services meet and exceed standards
  • Plan, lead and execute site visits for VIPs and dignitaries in partnership with GFO, Security, Government Affairs and Corporate Affairs
  • Establish ongoing continuous improvement / GEMBA walks
