About The Position

The Director for Service Infrastructure and Cybersecurity at Fluence is a technical leadership role responsible for governing global Tier 2 infrastructure, platform operations, and information security. As the primary engineering and escalation authority for the Remote Monitoring and Diagnostic Center (RMDC / Tier 1), this position ensures the availability, security, resilience, and scalable growth of Fluence’s enterprise cloud assets, central data platform infrastructure, and customer-facing edge environments. The role leads technical practices spanning AWS cloud administration, Zero Trust cybersecurity, networking and remote connectivity, platform firmware and operating systems, and automated deployment pipelines. The Director collaborates with Field Service Engineers, product engineering, and security compliance teams to improve service, uphold operational SLAs, and protect the digital systems supporting Fluence energy storage operations worldwide.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, Engineering, or a closely related technical discipline.
  • Minimum of 10–12 years of progressively responsible experience in IT infrastructure, cloud platform operations, cybersecurity, or related technical disciplines.
  • At least 5 years in technical leadership or management roles.
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary technical teams in high-availability industrial IoT, energy, or SaaS enterprise environments.
  • Hands-on expertise in AWS infrastructure administration, enterprise networking (firewalls, ZTA, VPN tunnels, and routing), Linux system administration, and Infrastructure-as-Code automation.
  • Working knowledge of information security practices, vulnerability management, IAM frameworks, zero-trust architectures, certificate lifecycle management, and audit readiness support.
  • Strong command of ITIL/service management principles, including change enablement, CMDB governance, capacity and continuity planning (RTO/RPO), and incident/problem management.
  • Experience managing enterprise-scale cloud infrastructure, network security, Linux-based platforms, and cybersecurity operations supporting geographically distributed, high-availability environments.
  • Working knowledge of cybersecurity and compliance frameworks including NIST, IEC 62443, ISO 27001, and applicable critical infrastructure security requirements.
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary technical teams, managing third-party service providers, and driving ITIL-aligned service operations, incident response, disaster recovery, and continuous improvement.
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States at the time of application and throughout employment without employer sponsorship.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in a relevant field.
  • Certifications such as CISSP, CISM, AWS Certified Solutions Architect, ITIL, or equivalent credentials.
  • Experience in energy, utilities, renewable energy, battery energy storage systems (BESS), industrial automation, or other mission-critical infrastructure environments.
  • Experience supporting industrial control systems (ICS), SCADA, industrial IoT, or interconnected IT/OT environments, including cybersecurity considerations for distributed industrial assets.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee global AWS resource administration, including EC2 OS lifecycle updates, EBS snapshots, AMI management, S3 lifecycle policies, resource cleanup, and capacity and quota monitoring.
  • Direct network architecture and operations, including global firewalls, Zero Trust Architecture, VPC routing, and secure VPN connectivity to customer sites and jump hosts.
  • Administer Central Data Acquisition Systems (DAS - OS6 & OS7) and database infrastructure, including MySQL/NoSQL automation, performance tuning, shard rollover, patching, and data purge policies.
  • Oversee lifecycle management for Linux OS, F.OS, firmware, controllers, servers, UPS devices, switches, routers, and firewalls.
  • Lead identity and access management governance across AWS and connected platforms, enforcing MFA, role-based policies, least privilege, key rotations, and periodic joiner/mover/leaver access reviews.
  • Manage cybersecurity operations, including vulnerability scanning, security group and firewall rule reviews, patch compliance, penetration testing coordination, and secrets/vault administration.
  • Lead standardized global rollouts of OS, platform, and firmware updates across cloud, Central DAS, and edge environments in coordination with Field Service Engineers.
  • Manage site onboarding deployments, site decommissioning workflows, deployment runbooks, rollback protocols, and test/staging environment validation before production releases.
  • Facilitate software automation and internal tooling initiatives, promoting Infrastructure-as-Code and operational scripting.
  • Guide change planning, maintenance window scheduling, risk reviews, rollback planning, and customer notification protocols.
  • Maintain the global CMDB/site inventory and oversee hardware EOL/EOS tracking, spare allocation, and software license tracking and reclamation.
  • Define availability standards and disaster recovery plans (RTO/RPO targets) for Central DAS and customer-facing platforms; lead scheduled DR failover drills and backup restore verifications.
  • Drive capacity forecasting for compute, storage, and licensing; direct Tier 2 monitoring platform architecture, threshold definitions, alert routing, and alert-fatigue cleanup in support of RMDC operations.
  • Serve as Tier 2 escalation lead for root-cause analysis of RMDC-escalated problems; maintain runbooks, topology diagrams, vendor support contracts, and InfoSec audit evidence.
  • Partner with operations, field service engineering, and vendors while maintaining runbooks, change controls, and escalation pathways.
  • Use operational insights, post-implementation change reviews, and monitoring data to drive process automation, cost optimization, and resilience improvements.
