The Role: The Director, Regional Security is accountable for the management and regional oversight of Security Services across all Providence Health & Services locations in the Alaska Region, including hospitals, clinics, and satellite sites. This role is responsible for strategic planning, operational standardization, daily operations, personnel leadership, and financial performance of Security Services. The Director ensures that the Security Management Plan is effectively developed and implemented across all service areas. The Director serves as the primary security consultant to Providence Health System Real Estate Strategy and Operations (RESO), supporting system-wide security assessments, incident management, and development of physical security standards. This role partners closely with the Providence Alaska Service Operations Center and collaborates with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies. The Director provides technical expertise and leadership to ensure the safety of staff, patients, visitors, and facilities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice, Business, Leadership, or related field
  • 5 years of management experience in healthcare security
  • 5 years of experience in law enforcement
  • 5 years of progressive leadership experience in a multi-facility organization
  • Demonstrated knowledge of criminal law and the justice system
  • Strong knowledge of security systems and regulatory enforcement codes
  • Knowledge of human resources principles and practices
  • Demonstrated knowledge of project management practices
  • Strong knowledge of budgeting and sound business practices
  • Demonstrated ability to provide strategic direction and leadership
  • Ability to organize and manage multiple complex processes
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including formal presentations
  • Ability to build effective relationships across internal teams and law enforcement partners
  • Demonstrated judgment, problem solving, and decision-making skills
  • Ability to develop and write policies
  • Experience developing emergency preparedness plans, including Incident Command and hospital disaster response
  • Valid driver’s license and compliance with driving requirements (required upon request)

Responsibilities

  • Lead strategic planning, operational standardization, and performance of Security Services across the Alaska Region
  • Develop and implement budgets, long-term plans, and regional security initiatives
  • Serve on and chair system, regional, and divisional committees and councils
  • Oversee all security operations across hospitals, clinics, and high-risk care settings (e.g., ED, behavioral health, NICU, women and newborn services)
  • Ensure standardized and high-quality security services across all locations
  • Develop and maintain the Security Management Plan and serve as regional subject matter expert
  • Lead development and implementation of the Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan (CEMP) and Business Continuity plans
  • Coordinate systems for identifying, evaluating, monitoring, and mitigating liability and security risks
  • Support workplace violence program development in collaboration with safety and clinical leadership
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, including Environment of Care and NFPA 99 standards
  • Collaborate with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies to ensure coordinated crisis response
  • Maintain professional affiliations and stay connected with industry security organizations
  • Represent Providence security leadership in the community and professional forums
  • Develop and implement regional security policies, standards, and best practices
  • Assess emerging trends, technologies, and risks to improve security capabilities
  • Support system-wide physical security standards in partnership with RESO
  • Oversee all personnel management activities including hiring, scheduling, coaching, development, and performance management
  • Promote professional development through education, training, and certifications
  • Build cohesive, high-performing security teams across the region
  • Lead Security Officer training programs including investigation, report writing, risk assessment, and analysis
  • Provide in-service training and orientation programs as required
  • Ensure staff are prepared to respond effectively to security and emergency situations
  • Maintain effective communication across security teams, leadership, and departments
  • Coordinate with regional and system leadership to ensure alignment on security priorities
  • Support cross-functional collaboration in addressing security risks and operational needs
  • Develop and maintain a cohesive Canine Security program
  • Strengthen workplace violence prevention programs
  • Balance resource allocation while improving security outcomes within approved budgets
  • Prioritize rapid response needs in a fast-paced, high-risk healthcare environment
