About The Position

The candidate selected for this position as Protective Security Operations Center (PSOC) Director will lead and manage the daily operations of our centralized security command center. This role provides strategic oversight and operational control for the PSOC and Alternate PSOC (APSOC) teams, ensuring effective monitoring, detection, analysis, and dispatch of Protective Security Officers to incidents threatening USAA personnel and assets. The Director will collaborate daily with Protective Security Directors, Security teams, and the Unified Command Center in implementing security protocols, and partnering with key stakeholders across Corporate Real Estate, Human Resources, Employee Relations, and Financial Centers on a global scale. This position requires providing regular reporting on physical security posture, emerging threats, and recommended enhancements to management and executives. Key responsibilities include risk management, budget management, performance evaluation through metrics, security technology implementation, development of procedures, and staying abreast of industry trends. As a dedicated Security Operations Director, you will develop and implements strategy for prevention and response actions by an armed security force under Protective Security Operations at the campus level in response to emergency incidents involving workplace violence, active shooters, duress situations, medical emergencies, access control violations, and other security events in protection of the workforce. Performs Incident Command responsibilities and coordinates as company liaison with local fire and police authorities during serious incidents. Plans strategy to identify and mitigate risk to the Association. Provides administrative oversight for Protective Security Managers and Senior PSOs along with performance standards for all team members.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice or a related field required; OR 4 years of additional relevant experience and Security Industry certification may be substituted in lieu of degree.
  • 8 years of experience in physical security, emergency response, military police, law enforcement, or combat operations.
  • 5 years of experience in a role accountable for teams responding to active shooter, active assailant, or acts of violence.
  • 3 years of direct team lead, supervisory or management experience.
  • Expertise in physical security, cybersecurity, and emergency protocols.
  • Advanced knowledge of computer programs for access control, camera systems, alarm annunciation, radio dispatch and general use of Microsoft Office tools to include Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Must possess valid state driver's license.

Nice To Haves

  • A minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in security management, with at least 5 years in a leadership role overseeing Security Operations Centers (SOCs), Protective Security Operations Centers (PSOCs), or similar 24/7 command and control environments.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in a role directly managing or overseeing teams responsible for 24/7 monitoring, alarm management, incident detection and analysis, dispatch, radio communications, and comprehensive incident reporting.
  • Demonstrated experience with risk management frameworks, internal control activities, security audits, and compliance programs.
  • A master's degree in a security-related field is highly desirable.
  • Relevant professional certifications such as CISSP, CISM, CPP, PSP, or GIAC certifications are preferred.
  • Advanced knowledge of Video Management Systems (VMS)/CCTV, Access Control Systems (ACS), alarm monitoring platforms, and IP-based communication systems.
  • Proficiency with standard office productivity software, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Responsibilities

  • Directs policy and procedures to ensure routine and emergency response actions of the armed proprietary security force to ensure they take immediate actions to stop acts of violence by armed adversaries.
  • Reviews data analytics of security activities and incidents to determine proper use and placement of security force team members.
  • Approves written guidance, incident reports, and conducts data analysis for alignment of resources.
  • Responsible for Incident Command during critical incidents and performs liaison with Situation Management Teams, Corporate Investigations, and local authorities.
  • Approves security operations plans for special events.
  • Oversees the monitoring, prioritizing and directing response to enterprise wide security activities from the 24x7x365 Protective Security Operations Center and Alternate Protective Security Operations Center assisting employees, contractors and visitors in all concerns that pertain to safety and security.
  • Directs dispatching, communications and coordination procedures to ensure routine and emergency response actions of the armed proprietary security force to ensure they take immediate actions to stop acts of violence by armed adversaries.
  • Oversees and directs the ongoing review of multiple systems and sources to detect potential risks.
  • Ensures the monitoring of the travel safety of company employees.
  • Ensures employees are properly trained and execute investigating alarms and dispatching Protective Security Officers or alerting Fire and/or law Enforcement agencies.
  • Directs development and completion of daily reports and incident reports.
  • Guides team members in the development and delivery of their work product.
  • Assists in the training and development of lower level security specialists.
  • Leads panel interviews for selection of managers, directors, security specialists and approves PTO and timesheets.
  • Ensures risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.
  • Coordinates with and supports the Unified Command Center (UCC) staff in crises situations.
  • Operates SOC specific applications at a basic level.
  • Builds and oversees a team of employees for assigned functional area through ongoing execution of recruiting, development, retention, coaching and support, performance management, and managerial activities.
