About The Position

Western Midstream is currently seeking a Director, Risk Management and Insurance to report to the Vice President, Planning and Treasurer. This role will assist in the placement and administration of the corporate insurance program, including the preparation of underwriting submissions, presentations and meetings with underwriters. The position also involves facilitating the Enterprise Risk Management function, payment of invoices, reviewing coverage binders and insurance policies, developing budget forecasts, reviewing policy audits, contract reviews, and claim handling oversight. The role includes basic day-to-day management of the Risk Management and Insurance Team.

Requirements

  • A minimum of (7-10) years’ experience in the risk management and insurance field, with a minimum of 5 years’ experience in the oil and gas industry; OR an equivalent combination of related education, training and work experience.
  • Experience working with insurance policies, underwriting submissions, underwriter presentations and formal face to face meetings, contract/agreement reviews.
  • Working knowledge of all of the key commercial business insurance coverages, including but not limited to: property/business interruption, commercial general liability, directors and officers liability, builder’s risk, pollution liability, and cyber liability insurance products and structures.
  • Possess excellent organizational skills and the ability to work on multiple tasks with little supervision.
  • Have excellent interpersonal skills, and excellent written and oral communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience managing direct reports preferred.
  • Additional education in Risk Management and Insurance Preferred.
  • Preferred to have the following designations: CPCU, ARM and/or other commercial insurance designations; a law degree is preferable with experience reviewing contracts and understanding of indemnification in contracts.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the primary risk management and insurance point of contact on a day-to-day basis and handle complex issues as appropriate.
  • Work with management to drive the development of the strategy and operational objectives for the risk management and insurance function.
  • Work closely with the Vice President, Planning and Treasurer to ensure the exposures of WES are being identified and analyzed on an ongoing basis and management of the insurance and surety programs and focus on strategic analysis and emerging risks.
  • Work closely with the Legal Department, Supply Chain, Operations and Commercial Services in development and/or review of revised language of various contracts and maintain a clear understanding of the relevance of those provisions.
  • Serve as a liaison amongst WES stakeholders and counterparties during the negotiation of non-standard contract terms and determine and address each affected department’s needs relative to those terms.
  • Review and analyze insurance policies when an interpretation of contract terms is needed, or when identification of differences in selected terms across contracts is required.
  • Manage the risk management team including review of work performed by the risk analyst(s), providing professional guidance, and ensure the quality of deliverables meets expectations; position may have several analysts reporting directly.
  • Develop analysis and reporting as needed for management.
  • Periodic travel will be required (e.g., property risk surveys, underwriter meetings (domestically and London/Bermuda), policyholder conferences, etc.).
  • Lead projects as assigned and as needed.
