Director, Revenue Accounting

Function Health•US - Remote,

About The Position

Function Health is seeking a Director, Revenue Accounting to own revenue and direct-cost accounting for its consumer revenue business, including labs, scans, mobile phlebotomy, and supplements. This role is accountable for the contribution margin these streams produce and will own the monthly close and accuracy of revenue and margin reporting. The current process involves multiple systems and a mix of internal staff and external support. The mandate is to bring this work in-house, standardize processes, and leverage automation, including AI tools, to minimize manual effort and ensure scalability. The Director will build and lead the team responsible for these streams, integrating new products into standard processes from the outset. Reporting to the Senior Director, Revenue Accounting & Operations, this senior leadership role operates within a lean, high-autonomy team. The position offers significant influence over the revenue accounting function's structure, including the close calendar, systems, and team. It is ideal for individuals energized by ambiguity, meticulous about accuracy, and motivated by building a meaningful function in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, with direct, in-house ownership of a consumer or health tech revenue close.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
  • Deep, applied command of US GAAP and ASC 606 for subscription and service revenue, with the judgment to set close policy as new products launch.
  • Experience maturing a raw or early-stage accounting function into a standardized process — standing up the internal systems and controls.
  • Hands-on experience using AI tools or AI agents in month-end close or accounting workflows, with specific examples of work you've automated.
  • People management experience — you've hired, managed, and developed managers or senior accountants, and can build a team while running the function day to day.
  • Comfortable making the call without precedent — building a consistent process across streams that don't yet run the same way.
  • Experience with contribution margin or direct-cost accounting by revenue stream, not only top-line revenue recognition.

Nice To Haves

  • CPA certification (or equivalent).
  • Experience integrating an acquired business's revenue accounting into a parent company's close process.
  • SQL or other data-querying experience sufficient to independently investigate transaction-level data.
  • Experience with subscription-based, membership, or consumer health/tech business models.
  • Hands-on experience with Rillet or a similar revenue recognition automation platform.

Responsibilities

  • Own revenue and direct-cost accounting for Function's consumer business (labs, scans, mobile phlebotomy, supplements) and be the reporting authority on the margin those streams produce for leadership.
  • Bring the close in house and onto one process, replacing outside firms, contractors, and the patchwork of systems inherited from each stream.
  • Automate month-end, including using AI tools and agents to eliminate manual work, so the close scales with volume instead of headcount.
  • Fold new products into that same standard as they launch or come on board, rather than letting each one start its own process.
  • Hire and develop the team running these streams, expanding their ownership as the group grows.
  • Own the audit relationship for consumer revenue — presenting methodology and keeping controls and documentation SOX-ready.

Benefits

  • competitive salary and benefits package
  • flexible working hours
