About The Position

They are seeking a Director for their Regulatory team, looking for a people-first leader who is self-motivated, organized, calm under pressure, and detail-oriented. The role involves leading and developing regulatory professionals, providing strategic advice during regulatory proceedings, developing project approval strategies, liaising with government and communities, ensuring compliance, assisting with due diligence, and influencing policy.

Requirements

  • A degree in a related field such as Environmental Science, Law, Biology, Agriculture, Engineering or a combination of education and relevant experience.
  • 15+ years of experience including at least 10 years in progressively more senior roles.
  • Capability to lead and mentor a team, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture.
  • Excellent understanding of compliance and working with the Canada Energy Regulator.
  • Knowledge and experience of federal and provincial regulatory requirements (laws, guidelines and practices).
  • Ability to build positive relationships across the organization.
  • Resourcefulness in interpreting policy.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with the Alberta Energy Regulator and British Columbia Energy Regulator also considered an asset.
  • Ability and willingness to travel to field locations in Northeast British Columbia and Northwest Alberta.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and develop our high-performing team of regulatory professionals.
  • Provide leadership and advice during regulatory proceedings and public hearings with the various federal/provincial regulatory bodies (CER, OGC, AER, and SRB), including witness support.
  • Develop regulatory strategies for federal and provincial project approvals, assessing risks and mitigants, while collaborating with NorthRiver’s teams.
  • Provide guidance during regulatory proceedings and public hearings, including witness support.
  • Liaise with government, regulatory officials, Indigenous and local communities to support applications.
  • Monitor operations for compliance with external regulations and requirements.
  • Assist with due diligence for asset, share, and joint venture transactions.
  • Engage in regulatory consultations and industry forums to influence policy and stay informed.
  • Communicate regulatory developments within NorthRiver and advise on required regulatory approvals and anticipated timeframes
  • Collaborate with internal teams, including Legal, Indigenous and Community Relations, Land, Government Relations, Operations, Commercial and others is essential for aligning operational activities with regulatory responsibilities.
  • Provide leadership, direction and coaching to the Regulatory team to ensure they are successful in their roles and skills development.
