About The Position

We are seeking a talented and passionate individual to lead the Regional Ethics Program in delivering ethical, evidence-based decision-making from the point of care through to the boardroom. The Regional Ethics Program is an ethics service provider with a “hub and spoke” model of delivery. Trillium Health Partners is the “hub” and administrator of the Regional Ethics Program. “Spokes” are organizations in the region that purchase services from the hub. Services are provided by a team of fully trained ethicists with the support of local ethics facilitators/champions. The overarching role of the Regional Ethics Program is to facilitate and support ethical decision-making throughout each organization through the identification, analysis, and resolution of ethical issues. Services provided to address clinical, organizational, and research ethics issues include consultation, education, policy development and review, quality improvement and research initiatives, and research ethics support. The Director is accountable for setting strategy for and monitoring all aspects of the Regional Ethics Program to ensure a standardized approach to ethical issues and to protect the organization’s reputation. Decisions are made with integrity and in alignment with Trillium Health Partner’s Plan to 2030. The Director, Regional Ethics Program, is an employee of Trillium Health Partners. This role reports to the Executive Vice President, Quality, Risk and Patient Experience.

Requirements

  • Doctorate or Master’s Degree in healthcare ethics or equivalent field
  • Minimum of five to seven years of clinical and organizational ethics experience and progressive leadership experience in a healthcare setting
  • In-depth knowledge and skills in healthcare ethics leadership, communication, consulting, teaching, facilitation/mediation, quality improvement methodology, research/research ethics, relationship and team building, healthcare systems
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with internal and external partners
  • Strong visionary leadership qualities, including the ability to motivate, inspire, and mentor a team
  • Proficiency in applicable computer applications (e.g., MS Teams)
  • Eligible to work in Canada

Responsibilities

  • Identifying ethics needs of the organization and developing specific goals and plans to support achievement of those goals
  • Managing all aspects of the Regional Ethics Program including human resources, budgeting, marketing, contracts, and relationship building
  • Establishing and providing accessible and comprehensive consultation services to staff, patients and their families
  • Supporting and actively participating in relevant organizational committees and working groups
  • Providing comprehensive ethics education and resources to staff, patients and families, learners, and the public through planning, implementation and delivery of activities such as Ethics Grand Rounds, Ethics Tips of the Month, and Mississauga Academy of Medicine curriculum
  • Fostering a culture of learning while empowering employees to reach their full potential
  • Facilitating development and implementation of policies, procedures and guidelines that align with the values of the organization and reflect current ethical standards
  • Supporting THP Research Ethics Board(s) as needed
