About The Position

Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine is seeking a Director, Data, Data Science and AI to lead a team supporting the Therapeutics Development and Supply (TDS) organization. TDS bridges scientific discovery and clinical application, covering CMC, Device development, and clinical supply chain. This role is responsible for building and scaling data engineering, semantic, ontology, and knowledge graph capabilities essential for AI/ML and analytics within TDS. The Director will lead a team of 5+ individual contributors and collaborate with cross-functional teams across R&D, DDSAI, and J&J IT to deliver AI-ready, governed, and reusable data products for TDS. The position is primarily located in Spring House, PA.

Requirements

  • Advanced degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or a related quantitative field.
  • 10+ years of experience in data engineering, data architecture, or data science platform development.
  • At least 3 years in a people leadership role.
  • Deep expertise in modern data stack technologies: cloud-based architectures (AWS, Snowflake), Python, SQL, graph databases, and semantic technologies, including knowledge graphs.
  • Demonstrated experience building and scaling data teams that deliver enterprise-grade data products.
  • Strong cross-functional leadership skills with the ability to influence and align across technical and business stakeholders at the Senior Director and VP level.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in pharmaceutical R&D, life sciences manufacturing, or regulated (GxP) environments.
  • Familiarity with ontology engineering (OWL, RDF, SKOS), knowledge graphs, and FAIR data principles.
  • Experience with MLOps platforms and practices (model registries, feature stores, automated retraining pipelines).
  • Track record of partnering with IT and data platform organizations to co-own technical architecture decisions.

Responsibilities

  • Partner to define and execute the TDS Data Product strategy aligned to TDS and DDSAI priorities; build a multi-year roadmap for data products and ontology that enable AI/ML and GenAI priorities for TDS.
  • Define and deliver high-quality, AI-ready data products that serve TDS lighthouse projects and foundational analytics needs.
  • Lead the design, build, and optimization of scalable data product pipelines and platforms that integrate TDS data from diverse sources (ELNs, MES, LIMS, SAP, quality systems, clinical supply).
  • Deploy data quality standards, lineage tracking, and governance practices aligned with enterprise and GxP requirements.
  • Ensure data integrity, data model validation, computerized system compliance, and transparent data model interpretability in regulated environments.
  • Co-deliver the TDS-specific semantic layer strategy: ontologies, reference data, controlled vocabularies, knowledge graph development, and integration with enterprise canonical models.
  • Partner with DDSAI's Data Strategy & Products team to ensure alignment with R&D-wide data architecture and ontology governance.
  • Support TDS data scientists with scalable platforms to develop, maintain, and scale TDS ontologies, KGs and reference data.
  • Recruit, develop, and lead a team of data product engineers, ontology developers, and data scientists.
  • Establish and maintain dotted-line operating model with DDSAI's Data Strategy & Products leadership team.
