This position requires up to 25% travel. Purpose: The Director, Product Mastering is responsible for establishing and governing an end-to-end mastering capability for product-related data, beginning with compounds in Therapeutic Discovery (TD), continuing through Preclinical Sciences & Translational Safety (PSTS), extending into Pharmaceutical Therapeutics Development & Supply (PTDS), and connecting seamlessly with clinical trial and regulatory data. This lifecycle mastering ensures continuity into commercial brand naming and labeling. This role ensures that product master data—including compounds, formulations, investigational products, clinical identifiers, regulatory submissions, and commercial brand hierarchies—is trusted, harmonized, and semantically consistent across the entire R&D to Commercial continuum. The Director will leverage ontologies and knowledge graphs to connect and contextualize product information across silos, enabling advanced analytics, AI/ML, regulatory compliance, and global interoperability.

Requirements

Bachelor degree required, Master’s or PhD preferred in life sciences, regulatory sciences, informatics, data science, or related field.
8+ years of experience in pharma/biotech R&D or commercial functions, with significant exposure to product lifecycle and regulatory data.
Demonstrated expertise in master data management is required, ontology development, and knowledge graph applications is preferred.
Proven track record of integrating product data across discovery, development, clinical, regulatory, and commercial domains.
Strong understanding of product data standards.
Hands-on experience with metadata management, ontologies, and graph-based integration technologies.
Ability to connect scientific, regulatory, and commercial perspectives into a unified product mastering framework.
Strong leadership, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
Ability to influence and drive adoption of product mastering practices across global organizations is required.

Responsibilities

Define and execute a mastering strategy covering the full product lifecycle: from discovery compounds → preclinical entities → development products (PTDS) → clinical trial identifiers → regulatory designations → commercial brand names.
Ensure a single, authoritative source of truth for all product-related master data, harmonized across functions and systems.
Identify gaps, redundancies, and opportunities for automation, external data partnerships, and standards alignment.
Lead the development and governance of a Product Ontology that links compounds, formulations, regulatory identifiers, and brand entities.
Apply knowledge graph technologies to connect product data across TD, PSTS, PTDS, clinical, regulatory, and commercial domains.
Align ontology and graph models with enterprise metadata standards and external frameworks
Establish stewardship, ownership, and governance models for product master data across R&D and Commercial.
Define and enforce standards for product hierarchies, nomenclature, and lifecycle transitions.
Partner with Regulatory Affairs, Clinical Operations, Supply Chain, and Commercial to ensure product mastering supports submission, labeling, and compliance needs.
Collaborate with Knowledge Management, Data Products, and Metadata/Cataloging teams to ensure product master data is discoverable, connected, and reusable across the enterprise.
Work with IT (JJT) to evaluate and implement enabling technologies for ontology, graph-based integration, and master data platforms.
Align with parallel MDM domains (e.g., patient, site, account) to ensure cross-domain consistency.
Define and track KPIs for product master data quality, timeliness, and traceability across the lifecycle.
Provide governance dashboards and reports to R&D and Commercial leadership.
Communicate the vision, progress, and value realization of product mastering to senior executives and cross-functional stakeholders.
The Director, Product Mastering ensures that product-related data is connected across the full R&D-to-Commercial lifecycle. By embedding ontology-driven governance and leveraging knowledge graphs, this role transforms product data into a trusted, AI-ready asset that accelerates discovery, supports regulatory submissions, ensures compliance, and strengthens commercial readiness.
