About The Position

We are searching for the best talent to join our team as the Director, Public Affairs, U.S. Neuroscience. This role can sit in our Titusville, NJ or Washington D.C. office on a hybrid schedule. The Director, Public Affairs, U.S. Neuroscience will drive strategic public affairs initiatives in support of the U.S. Neuroscience portfolio. This leader will help shape the external policy and advocacy environment to support patient access, reimbursement, and the long-term success of the Neuroscience pipeline and portfolio. The role requires deep understanding of Neuroscience business strategy, access dynamics, and the evolving U.S. health policy landscape, while advancing public affairs as a strategic discipline across J&J Innovative Medicine.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree is required with a preference of study in the areas of Political Science, Policy, Public Relations, Government, Community Affairs, Communications or closely related field
  • Minimum of (10) years of relevant professional experience
  • Experience in public affairs, politics, policy communications, advocacy
  • Strong communications skills, including engaging with executive leadership
  • Strong writing and messaging ability
  • Experience with external affairs development and execution
  • Broad understanding of complex healthcare delivery and reimbursement system/payer dynamics, as well as protocols in engaging policymakers and KOLs
  • Ability to rapidly develop deep seeded relationships externally and internally
  • Ability to engage with business partners, understand commercial and business strategy and support that strategy through public affairs
  • Proven experience using Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies to enhance personal productivity and/or department performance
  • Ability to lead in times of ambiguity, strong influencing skills

Responsibilities

  • Partner closely with Neuroscience leadership to understand business priorities, access challenges, and policy-related risks and opportunities.
  • Develop and implement integrated public affairs strategies that influence the external policy environment in ways that support innovation, patient access, and portfolio sustainability.
  • Help J&J maintain strong external relationships with policy influencers, including advocacy organizations, key opinion leaders, think tanks, policymakers, and coalitions alongside internal teams.
  • Monitor and interpret the mental health public policy and regulatory landscape, including emerging innovation, reimbursement, site-of-care, and clinical research
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Neuroscience Communications & Public Affairs, Government Affairs & Policy, Global Public Affairs, Patient Advocacy & Alliances, and Strategic Customer Group to ensure alignment and consistency.
  • Ensure public affairs activities are fully integrated with communications, media relations, and policy efforts.
  • Provide strategic counsel to business leaders on public policy, advocacy positioning, and external engagement.
  • Support federal and state government affairs engagement by providing neuroscience-specific insights, messaging, and stakeholder context.
  • Contribute to executive visibility opportunities, including speaking engagements and media interactions.
  • Stay attuned to emerging policy and regulatory trends and societal dynamics to effectively adapt public affairs strategies.
  • Support functional communications needs and provide counsel during issues management or crisis situations impacting the Neuroscience portfolio.
