About The Position

Emergent BioSolutions is seeking a Director, Provincial Health Solutions for Western Canada. This role is responsible for leading the development and execution of provincial health partnerships and programs to expand access to life-saving opioid overdose interventions. The ideal candidate will be a strategic, analytical, and resourceful leader who can work autonomously and build strong relationships with government agencies, public health units, harm reduction organizations, first responders, and pharmacy partners. This is a remote-based role, and preference is given to candidates residing in British Columbia or Alberta. The position focuses on creating an ecosystem for the availability, accessibility, distribution, and use of Emergent’s opioid-poisoning treatments, such as NARCAN® Nasal Spray.

Requirements

  • Bachelors’ degree or equivalent required
  • Eight or more years of experience in a pharmaceutical/biotech sales/account management role, with a strong focus on provincial government accounts and public sector purchasing
  • Three or more years of experience in sales management.
  • Skilled in Microsoft Office applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
  • Strong critical thinking/problem solving skills
  • Strong business analytical skills to assess potential opportunities across the region.
  • Ability to build value-creating relationships with key customer stakeholders is essential.
  • Must be self-motivated and able to work independently.
  • Strong project management skills, ability to manage multiple high priorities, identify resource needs, drive to completion, prepare reports, and evaluate results.
  • Excellent interpersonal, and oral and written communication skills.
  • Skilled in presenting and tailoring presentation to audience, engaging audience and adapting to last minute changes.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s in Public Health (MPH), Public Administration (MPA), Master of Business Administration (MBA) or related field preferred.
  • Direct experience working within or closely with provincial procurement offices, public purchasing teams, or related contracting roles on contracting/RFPs is strongly preferred.
  • Proven track record of formulating and executing effective sales and negotiation strategies to achieve and exceed revenue targets.
  • Prior experience with opioid antagonist or related products and/or experience within substance use treatment environment is preferred
  • Understanding of how a provincial health department supports public health related to naloxone distribution is preferred.
  • Understanding and passion to assist those experiencing chronic substance use, dependency and the associated comorbid conditions.
  • Understanding of how the political environment (both local and national) can affect patient access to products.
  • Working knowledge of Provincial Public Health Programs, specifically in the Western Provinces.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and lead the execution of a regional business plan to meet financial, patient access, and distribution goals, ensuring regional priorities, investments, and stakeholder engagement strategies are aligned with and support the achievement of national business strategy and objectives across Canada.
  • Increase distribution of Emergent’s opioid-poisoning treatments such as NARCAN® Nasal Spray through effective mapping of the regional landscape, access points and challenges, market analysis and sizing, influential customer groups and drivers, and focused annual planning against these key insights.
  • Develop strategies and tactics to meet objectives as noted within the regional business plan, prepare and present an annual territory plan and weekly update reports, analyzing each market channel’s potential, Emergent’s product’s market share, challenges, and opportunities.
  • Lead cross-functional teams (legal, pricing, compliance, supply chain, market access) to develop high-quality, compliant solutions that align with public health goals.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between the company and customer stakeholders involved in purchasing, contracting, distributing, or recommending naloxone.
  • Establish new accounts, partners, and distribution points by planning and organizing daily, weekly, monthly work schedule to call on existing or potential referral sources to ensure steady stream of referrals.
  • Identify and interact with Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs) in assigned territory.
  • Develop and manage strategic relationships with key decision makers and influencers.
  • Maintain frequent contact with the marketing department regarding key developments, opportunities and requests from KOLs, clients or partners.
  • Work collaboratively with Government Affairs to expedite growth in new and existing channels, and partner with government and public health agencies on bulk purchasing programs and public access initiatives.
  • Expand knowledge base by working with Medical and Government Affairs, by: attending key local congresses; reviewing clinical publications; establishing personal networks with government and community healthcare partners and participate in local professional societies.
  • Determine and anticipate potential changes within the government and community health care marketplace and alert Government Affairs so the appropriate steps can be initiated.
  • Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing sales (internal and/or vendor based) team to achieve revenue targets and key performance indicators.
  • Conduct regular performance reviews, provide ongoing feedback, and support professional development for sales staff.
  • Manage recruitment, onboarding, and training of new sales representatives to build team capability and capacity.
  • Maintain compliance with all company policies, practices, and regulations in all aspects of regional sales operations.
