Director, Project Management

Fenway HealthBoston, MA
Onsite

About The Position

Fenway Health is establishing a Strategy Office to manage and execute growth initiatives. This role is central to turning strategic decisions into tangible results, such as launching new service lines and integrating partnerships. The Director will ensure these initiatives are completed on time, within budget, and in alignment with Fenway’s mission. This position involves identifying risks, coordinating across various teams (clinical, operational, financial, administrative), and building the necessary processes and tools for consistent, large-scale delivery. Initially, this role will be hands-on, with a growth path to building and leading a team. It is ideal for someone focused on outcomes and building a lasting function to expand access to care.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience required.
  • Seven (7) or more years in project or program management, integration, or healthcare operations, including leading large, multi-team projects.
  • Proven success leading cross-functional projects, ideally including the integration of a new business line or an affiliated organization in healthcare.
  • Experience leading work in a clinical environment, with clinicians whose first accountability is patient care rather than a project timeline.
  • Comfort building a function from scratch and working hands-on, without a team or an established office in place.
  • Working knowledge of healthcare operations.
  • Demonstrated ability to hold cross-functional teams to milestones through a written charter and a clear escalation path rather than through personal persuasion alone.
  • Ability to manage several priorities at once.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Comfort working with senior leaders and the Board.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with LGBTQ+ communities, people living with HIV, and populations that have faced barriers to care, and to reflect that understanding in analysis and recommendations.
  • Understanding of how mission obligations shape business decisions in a safety-net setting, including where Fenway Health will decline an opportunity that would make money.
  • Ability to effectively communicate in person, over the phone, and through email and other electronic communication.
  • Ability to sit at a computer station for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to keyboard for extended periods of time.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, Public Health, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience leading the integration of a new business line or an affiliated organization in healthcare.
  • FQHC, Medicaid, value-based care, and HRSA experience a plus.
  • Experience in community health centers, FQHCs, health systems, or safety-net healthcare.
  • Healthcare integration experience, or work with a healthcare consulting integration team.
  • PMP, Lean, Agile, or change management training.
  • Familiarity with EHR rollouts, telehealth, or multi-site operations.

  • Maintains launch plans and go/no-go checklists, ensuring all regulatory requirements (HRSA, FQHC, licensure) are included and confirmed with Compliance.
  • Partners with the Director of Business Development on project execution, owning delivery against baselines, readiness certification, and the handoff to Operations.
  • Maintains a portfolio view of approved ventures for the Executive Committee and Board, tracking progress, risks, and required decisions.
  • Sets and maintains decision points for each stage of a venture, defining responsibilities for decision-making.
  • Tracks actual results against approved business cases for twelve months post-launch (revenue, volume, cost, staffing, timeline) and reports variances.
  • Explains variances with Finance and documents learnings with the Director of Business Development.
  • Leads operations and systems integration for new ventures, coordinating across multiple departments (finance, people, clinical operations, compliance, IT, revenue cycle, pharmacy, communications, facilities).
  • Owns the integration plan, milestones, risk log, and decision log for new ventures.
  • Leads the people and culture aspects of integration, focusing on communication, role clarity, and retention.
  • Tracks project impediments and escalates risks and decisions to the Executive Committee and Board.
  • Owns readiness criteria for venture handoff to Operations and recommends when criteria are met.
  • Maintains the regular meeting and reporting rhythm for the growth portfolio (working sessions, steering reviews, executive updates).
  • Partners with stakeholders, especially Operations and Finance, to facilitate change management.
  • Develops simple, useful tools and templates to support teams.
  • Builds trust across the organization, balancing assertiveness with support.
  • Ensures ventures launch on time and within budget without destabilizing existing operations.
  • Ensures no venture goes live without documented Compliance sign-off.
