Director, Project Management Office

FENWAY HEALTHBoston, MA
$110,000 - $140,000Onsite

About The Position

Fenway Health is establishing a Strategy Office to manage and execute growth initiatives effectively. This role is central to turning strategic decisions into tangible results, such as launching new service lines and integrating partnerships. The Director will ensure initiatives are completed on time, within budget, and in alignment with Fenway's mission. This position involves identifying risks, coordinating across various teams (clinical, operational, financial, administrative), and building the necessary tools and processes for consistent, large-scale delivery. Initially, the role will be hands-on, with a clear path to leadership and team building as the project portfolio grows. The focus is on owning outcomes and building a lasting function to expand access to care.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience.
  • Seven (7) or more years in project or program management, integration, or healthcare operations, including leading large, multi-team projects.
  • Proven success leading cross-functional projects, ideally including the integration of a new business line or an affiliated organization in healthcare.
  • Experience leading work in a clinical environment, with clinicians whose first accountability is patient care rather than a project timeline.
  • Comfort building a function from scratch and working hands-on, without a team or an established office in place.
  • Working knowledge of healthcare operations; FQHC, Medicaid, value-based care, and HRSA experience is a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to hold cross-functional teams to milestones through a written charter and a clear escalation path, and to manage several priorities at once.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, and comfort working with senior leaders and the Board.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with LGBTQ+ communities, people living with HIV, and populations that have faced barriers to care, and to reflect that understanding in analysis and recommendations.
  • Understanding of how mission obligations shape business decisions in a safety-net setting.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, Public Health, or a related field.
  • Experience in community health centers, FQHCs, health systems, or safety-net healthcare.
  • Healthcare integration experience, or work with a healthcare consulting integration team.
  • PMP, Lean, Agile, or change management training.
  • Familiarity with EHR rollouts, telehealth, or multi-site operations.

Responsibilities

  • Turning growth decisions into reality by launching new service lines and integrating partnerships.
  • Ensuring each initiative is executed on time, on budget, and in alignment with Fenway’s mission.
  • Identifying risks before they materialize and building the coordination required to bring complex initiatives across the finish line.
  • Creating Fenway’s readiness and integration approach, developing tools, processes, and discipline for consistent delivery at scale.
  • Leading launch planning for new service lines across clinical readiness, staffing, billing, space, marketing, and patient access.
  • Keeping launch plans and go/no-go checklists current.
  • Ensuring launch plans include all necessary regulatory requirements (HRSA, FQHC, licensure) with documented sign-off from Compliance.
  • Partnering with the Director of Business Development on project execution, owning delivery against baselines, readiness certification, and handoff to Operations.
  • Maintaining one portfolio view of approved ventures for the Executive Committee and the Board, tracking progress, risks, and decisions needed.
  • Setting and maintaining decision points for each stage of a venture.
  • Tracking actual results against the approved business case for twelve months post-launch (revenue, volume, cost, staffing, timeline) and reporting differences.
  • Explaining variances with Finance and documenting learnings with the Director of Business Development.
  • Leading operations and systems integration for new ventures, coordinating across multiple departments.
  • Owning the integration plan, milestones, risk log, and decision log.
  • Leading the people and culture aspects of integration, including communication, role clarity, and retention.
  • Tracking project impediments and escalating risks and decisions to the Executive Committee and Board.
  • Owning readiness criteria for handing a venture to Operations and recommending readiness.
  • Maintaining the regular meeting and reporting rhythm for the growth portfolio.
  • Partnering with internal and external stakeholders, particularly Operations and Finance, to facilitate change management.
  • Building simple, useful tools and templates to support teams.
  • Building trust across the organization and managing stakeholder relationships effectively.
